Hey all,

Just got my I30, put 250km on it so far and already wish the exhaust was louder (came from and still drive a highly modified Audi 1.8T with a ridiculous exhaust)

I got underneath the rear and unbolted the rear muffler, just two bolts, just to see what difference that would make and if i should get a new straight pipe section made up. From what I can see, there is a large cat straight after the downpipe, then a resonator followed by the large and heavy muffler at the back.

Here it is:

 :welcumwagon: Thanks for the video.

So what do you think? Just replace the muffler with a straight through will be enough.

You'll still require some sort of resonator for the rear, when driving at freeway speeds she'll drone horribly without either a straight through muffler or a couple of hotdogs to kill the resonance.

Could you use a "Quarter Pounder" or a "Big Mac" ?

Having made a few exhausts I'm not 100% sure an additional resonator will be necessary, its still pretty quiet through the rev range without the rear section, but I'll rig something up in the next week or so and go for a test drive.

At this stage I think i'll grab a 2.25" 105mm BHC 2 bolt flange and some 2.25' pipe and make up a straight pipe section. Should be less than $50

Also attached some pictures from the rear flange to aid in my description

Appreciate all the interest and support!

Just for the record, I've measured the stock exhaust again and its 2.5"

sadly that means I ordered the wrong size flange  :blubber:

I should have picked that up when you previously mentioned 2.25" :disapp: I've had a look under a couple of PD SR's now and did know that :head_knock:

I definitely keen to follow this, I have a couple of friends who also own SR's and we are all chasing a little better sound from our cars  :goodjob2:

So it's a little crude but j was too excited to wait to use a MIG welder and settled for a bit of old exhaust and the trusty arc welder and it functions!

OEM muffler was easy to take off with just three rubber mounts.

Videos in the morning hopefully after some fun on the way to work but the initial test tonight shows it comes alive! Normal acceleration it's not too loud but under boost its obnoxious and sounds fast lol

I do like how noticeable the dct shifts are with an exhaust but agree that a simple hot dog muffler would probably clean up the sound a bit

A bit rough but good enough for a test :goodjob: she'll sound a bit different when split off into twin pipes at rear as well.

Give it a good run where you're able to sit on 100-110 and you'll see what I was saying earlier about the droning, a pair of hot dogs should tidy it up.
