Title: 2010 FD comfort LCD screen flickering
Post by: Donk10 on June 09, 2018, 09:07:34
Hi guy’s I got in the car yesterday to come home from work and noticed that my LCD screen in middle between the speedo and tachometer has started flashing, it did it up to about 2 miles away from home and then stopped flashing. Now I’ve just been to the car and it’s flashing again. I had a flat battery the other week but bumped it and it’s been fine since and I’ve just dropped a multimeter on the battery and it’s reading 12.5 with the engine off and 14.4 with it on. I’ve read that a few guys had to have the console replaced but I’m out of warranty and currently buying a house so I could do without spending too much. What are my options and would this have to be done at a Hyundai garage?

Should be reasonably cheap to pick up a second hand instrument cluster from a wrecker/breakers, there are members on here that I'm sure wouldn't mind helping with instructions on fitting :)

Yeah, frustrating. already replaced one and have another showing symptoms but reasonably stable at the moment.

First you'll need to match the part number, there's several versions depending on the vehicle spec.

I then removed the eeprom off the old unit and transferred it to the new unit that way kept the odometer and all saved data.

You'll need someone who's electronically minded and good with soldering, or there's likely people who can copy the data across at a price.

removing it is pretty straight forward starting with removing the 2 screws in the fascia, disconnecting the harness to the trip button etc

Is there an online manual or anything on how to remove it as I haven’t a clue

You may not have a clue but's it's remarkably self explanatory when you see it.

Lower the steering column and lock into position

In the black hood/cover at the top you will see 2 screws, remove

The cover is now kept in place with clips, pull it carefully but firmly towards you, some of the white retainers may remain , you'll have to remove these and put them back on the posts.

Disconnect the wire harness

You will now have an exposed cluster held in place by 4 screws, remove these.

You can now carefully pull the cluster forward, disconnect the 3 harnesses, you can now remove the assembly.

part number will be a white label on the top

installation will be reverse.

Just an update, problem went away for a few days by itself. Now it’s come back but I’ve noticed a pattern to it. When I start the car it starts and after driving it say to work it will of stopped by the time I’ve gotten about half way there. When I get in it to come home it might do it a little once I get in but normally it’s stops again after a few minutes. I looked at the  Hyundai website for services and it’s recommended an 8yr 100k service at a cost of £325! Nearly made me pass out!

That's where my wagon is at so I'm doing nothing until it dies completely.

I trust the servicing reference is separate but if you think any servicing will rectify this then it won't.
