Something similar may have been posted before.

Sad, especially if you are inclined to 'help' people...

While driving on a rural end of the roadway on Thursday morning, I saw an infant car seat on the side of the road with a blanket draped over it.
For whatever reason, I did not stop, even though I had all kinds of thoughts running through my head.
But when I got to my destination, I called the Police and they were going to check it out.
But, this is what the Police advised even before they went out there to check....

"There are several things to be aware of ... gangs and thieves are now plotting different ways to get a person (mostly women)to stop their vehicle and get out of the car.

"There is a gang initiation reported by the local Police  where  gangs are placing a car seat by the road...with a fake baby in it...waiting for a woman, of course, to stop and check on the abandoned baby.

"Note that the location of this car seat is usually beside a wooded or grassy (field) area and the person  -- woman  -- will be dragged into the woods, beaten and raped, and usually left for dead.
If it's a man, they're usually beaten and robbed and maybe left for dead, too.

DO NOT STOP FOR ANY  REASON!!!
DIAL 9-9-9
AND REPORT WHAT YOU SAW, BUT DON'T EVEN SLOW DOWN.

This is another

IF YOU  ARE DRIVING AT NIGHT AND EGGS ARE THROWN AT YOUR WINDSCREEN, DO NOT STOP TO CHECK THE CAR,
DO NOT OPERATE THE WIPER  AND
DO NOT SPRAY ANY WATER BECAUSE EGGS MIXED WITH WATER BECOMES MILKY AND BLOCK YOUR VISION UP TO 92.5%. YOU ARE THEN FORCED TO STOP BESIDE THE ROAD AND BECOME A VICTIM OF THESE CRIMINALS.

THIS IS A NEW TECHNIQUE USED BY GANGS, SO PLEASE INFORM YOUR FRIENDS AND RELATIVES.

THESE ARE DESPERATE TIMES AND THESE ARE UNSAVOURY INDIVIDUALS WHO WILL TAKE DESPERATE MEASURES TO GET WHAT THEY WANT."

I dont want do dis-alarm people unnecessariily, but this seems to have a hit on snopes as false:

http://www.snopes.com/crime/gangs/carseat.asp

If a crime like that happened here, wouldn't it make headline news?

A friend of mine car did get shot at by youths from a windows with a bb gun the other day.

sounds dreadful. but i doubt i'd stop anyway if on my own and no other traffic around :-[

the one i watch for is the van parked next to your car in underground carparks etc. whether its likely or not it is possible and i just rather be safe than sorry.

its not a safe world we live in anymore.

It never was that safe.. every hear of "Jack the Ripper"

Since time began there have been rapes and murders.. I think the difference now is we hear (and see it - in some cases) almost as soon as it happens...

i agree with you 100% dazz, but in my younger days you could sleep with the doors and windows of your house open and be safe. i also recall my dad leaving the his keys in the car more often than not and it still being in the drive in the morning. we've not ever let our kids walk to school in fear of them not reaching it[mainly the wifes fear] because of undesirables in this day and age.

i remember my grandparents always had their house unlocked. as they put it how do their kids get in if they weren't home? it was normal for them for their kids or grandkids to pop around at any time and make themselves comfy while they weren't there. no idea if my grandad would do that anymore, i doubt it.

i on the other hand find the thought of someone making themselves at home in my house while i'm not home horrendous, no matter who they are. actually even if i am home

Liverpool??

I've no hesitation of walking around Liverpool at any time of the day.

However, there are place where I'd be careful and keep to the main track as you'll find in any town.

its the family's house over there (grand parents, aunt uncle, and cousins)

there are parts of the fence where the electric part goes right to the ground... mainly around a disused gate, and just after that front gate because of the style of the wall there isnt like the rest of it and solid, so its easily smashed with a sledge hammer!

LOL...

dads cousin had the ultimate in home security... notice the burgular bars only cover the opening window on that house... means people can still get in

dads cousing had bars on all windows, the hallway had a gate on it made from steel with mesh over it incase they try and stab you through it, double gates on the front door (walk into an area between the front door through one gate)

and they had a loaded gun...

meh i like africa... i could live there sure there is constant threat like that, but besides that its an awesome place, the wild life is great, most people are good, and my family is there!
