Driving back home yesterday and my i30 1.6 auto 2009 just stalled at the lights and wouldn't restart! Car has done 80k miles and serviced 2 mths ago. Apart from alternator changed two years ago, nothing major has happened. Breakdown guy wasn't very helpful and just towed to my mechanic. Typically Saturday afternoon.

I know it's a long short, what major issues could we be looking at? Thanks in advance.

where would we start this one?

Electrical / fuel .

ECU, Fuses, relays, sensors, pump, filter,   take your pick

Fuel system / fuel pump issue maybe the most likely?  :undecided:

Looking back, may be gearbox. Put it to N at traffic light. When it went to green, moved it to D and stalled with all the warning lights on. So may be the gear is stuck at N . Any way, tomorrow mechanic Wil look at it and update you all. Thanks guys.

assuming you are talking about an auto transmission, the car can be started in both Neutral and Park.
Other than that, tw2005 has the most logical solution.

A quick update. My garage checked the car over and it started straight away! He ran the engine for an hour , and drove it on and off for two days but nothing was found! Typical. He said originally it sounded like fuel issue but he said to replace the fuel pump costs about £300!

Anyway, suggest to drive the cat locally and use a premium petrol. Not sure I want to keep this car now. May be time for a change.

Thanks for update  :goodjob:
I'd change pump & filter myself , will only take a couple of hours.
£300:00, you could get severely pi**ed on what you'll save  :winker: may even get a feed  :happydance:
Also would leave it  in drive at lights, won't save any fuel by putting into neutral.
