Doors seem harder to shut in PD models.

You definitely seem to have to shut the doors more firmly in the PD models for them to shut properly than most other cars including say Trish's GD tourer. Has anyone else noticed this? I mentioned it at either the free 1500 or 10k service, but of course they couldn't find a problem. I asked them to lubricate the catches and have since used a bit of dry lube on them, but to no avail.

I'm now assuming it is an air tightness thing?

I'd love $1 for every time myself or a passenger has had to close the door twice to shut it properly.  The grandkids find it particularly difficult as they have to slam mine (relatively speaking) but get in trouble with Trish if they do the same to hers GD tourer.   :crazy1:

It is, because if you wind the window(s) down (even a 3 mm see through gap will do), there are no issues to shut the doors. The tail gate is the only thing shutting properly most of the time.

Thanks Hati, I suppose I could have checked that.  :crazy1:

I know some upmarket cars drop the windows automatically just a little to make it easier. Jaguar?

We noticed this too Dazz.

I wonder if its got something to do with the door now being stamped out of one piece of metal, including the window frame.

That could make it a tighter fit Dean.  :goodjob:

Hati confirmed below it was an air thing.

Maybe the air pressure "flappy thing" and the vents in the rear area are bit smaller .

i find myself closing doors twice especially front driver and passenger doors.
i thought initially it was a overly stiff rubber door seals, misaligned catches but not any better after 8 months.
You need a firm action & wide arc to close the little buggers properly which is sometimes difficult in tight shopping carparks

So, do we finally now have a definitive answer as to the age old question of what the acronyms FD, GD and PD stand for?

I definitely noticed this too. Was wondering if I was going crazy or not since no one has mentioned it until recently!

Yeah, it's not super bad though. Just go a bit harder.
Only problem is other people closing them but going way to light.

I think it's the overall weight of the door, compared to ford the doors on the pd are probably 1 3rd of the weight, and people just not used to it.
