Scenario: You are driving home or to work. You are a few Kms from your destination. The cluster's red oil light comes on.  What do you do?

A. Stop and try to remedy the problem.

B. Keep driving to destination.

C. Drive to a dealer.

D. Drive to your mechanic.

E. Park, turn off motor and wait for a tow truck.

F.  Park, idle motor so that A/C or heater works while you wait for a tow truck.

E. Red oil light is low/no oil pressure. Time to stop and get towed rather than run the engine and sustain major engine damage.

If oil level is OK,  I take my obd reader from glove box and check the oil pressure. If that is OK. Might actually open the oil cap to see if the head gets any oil while running. Based on those results,  It will be tow truck or long days at DIY garage.

If the car was still running smoothly and the engine sounded OK I'd pull over and check the oil level and condition of the oil (take of engine oil cap and look for signs of water in oil etc..) Depending on results of those checks whether I'd call for a tow truck or carefully drive to a trusted mechanic.

Fairy Nuff.  Dazz I was going to politely add A+E = (D?) to your solution,  given that you are providing an alternative.

For me, same as Sundiz.

It seems that all the Brits and our Ipswich expert found the questions too hard.  :whistler:

Now, based upon vehicles I have been able to check and especially vehicles in my workshop:

Drivers who have done  A = 0%

Drivers who have done  E = 20%

Drivers who have done  B = 80%   :Drive:

In the 80% group, all of them seized their motors. In that group is an F woman who actually did wait for the tow truck with here engine idling.  :faint:

Mick being our only F  :honk: is the winner.

Mate your prize is abuse free.  :goodjob:

Mick is hereby awarded his own page on Facebook where he will be inundated with more good ideas from the adoring 80%ers. :happydance:

Aww, man, it doesn't pay to get to the party late.

If it's an '83 Commodore, the answer is you get the Castrol XLD bottle out of the boot, add another litre and off you go again.

Thank you, thank you,  :thanks: :thanks: :yahoo:
Of course with such a random question and even more random answers , I used all of my knowledge and skill and picked the most incorrect answer  :winker:
As for my fb prize, I cheerfully and whole heartedly gift it to 2nd place.
Cant wait for the next loaded question.

OK, I'll allow a margin of error in this very scientific inquiry. Dazz is in.

"or carefully drive to a trusted mechanic." > not sure how you intend to do that. Stop at give way signs? Wait for 30 seconds after traffic lights turn green?

"signs of water in oil" > you will still have oil pressure. OK to drive to mechanic.

"the engine sounded OK" >  yes!!  :goodjob2: motor will usually sound rattly without oil pressure.  Usually  :Ouch:

 :thanks:
