Outside temp display

Hi All,
Just bought a used 2008 diesel, and love driving it.
Problem i have is the outside temperature display is showing readings of 45 - 52 degrees C , but the weather here in Ireland is 5 degrees C max at the moment.
Any advice please.

Hi ajjc. Are you sure the temp display isn't showing degrees Fahrenheit?

Hmm I don't think we ever solved the mystery of where the temp sensor is located. Might be wrong about that though. Could be worth a search if you fancy it...

Have you tried resetting in the menu settings?

If not, then try doing this and reset temp to either C or F and then see what is displays.

As to location of the sensor this has been asked before but no reply as to where it is has been posted.

I have replaced more temperature sensors on cars over the years than I care to remeber. Jet washing them is often the cause.

its more than likely just a crook sensor.

but you still have 3 years warranty.

Check that it is not loose and is sitting hard against the radiator...

OR

Take it to the dealer and get it fixed under warranty...

I wonder what the gauge reads when starting from cold....?

Hi All,
Thanks for the replies
The car was not used today, but started it up tonight, and it showed a reading of 54 degrees C straight away. That might rule out a loose sensor leaning against a hot radiator, so I will call to a Hyundai dealer on monday.
Warranty here in Ireland is only 3 years, but that still gives me just over 1 year left.

Dont know why its only 3 years here, but the way I look at it is if Hyundai stand over a 5 year warranty everywhere else, then it should be a good car. Funny thing is, Kia give a 7 year warranty in Ireland, and the Ceed would be a sibling of the i30, but the i30 outsells it.

a few of the members have stated that the build quality on the ceed isn't as good as the i30,but it uses the same engines and transmissions.

i30 has 3 years warranty in Sweden too since 1/1-2009.

i30 sold before that date has 9 years warranty.
Kia Ceed has 7 years warranty.

Drive a Ceed and you will soon spot the difference. Drive a KIA Picanto Petrol and never want to drive again!

hi Alan, as they say, they do it if they can. if they are out selling, or selling well with 3 year warranty why would they change. KIA on other hand have to build up a reputation so need to go overboard on warranty.
about your gauge who knows but it's not an issue really as you would have a good idea yourself if its hot or cold outside. cheers

on new years eve we had 41c and my outside temp on my car said 25c. even after a 30 minute drive to the shops. i came out of the shops i had just driven to and restarted the car, and the temp was normal again,41c. that's the first time its ever played up.

. That is strange that it did that..
