FYI

Around March/April this year I reported a slight hesitancy under gentle acceleration to my local dealer. It occurs in mainly 1st and 2nd gears between approx 1800 and 2200 rpm when there is a low ambiente temperature. At the time they couldn't recreate it, and neither were there fault codes generated. I was left to monitor it in case it got any worse, as they thought it could have been the fuel filter, but not the fuel filter housing issue that affected the 1.6's.
Yesterday had request from dealer to drop in, so they could get some more info from the ECU, version and software version, as it appears there have been a few more cases and they were instructed to get the info by Hyundai UK as they are meant to be looking into it. Now just got to watch this space in case they come up with anything.

Hi Mark.

I have the same car (with the same engine) and the same problem.
I work by the austrian importer (hyundai austria) and we noticed this problem by all 2,0 CRDi´s. It´s a software problem from the EGR actuator and we makes some flight records from the ECU and send them to HMC.

But FYI:

When you drive with an K&N sport air filter, the slight hesitancy or acceleration interruptions are between 1400 and 1800 rpm. With Original air filter between 1800 and 2200 rpm.

I inform you, when we have any solutions about this problem.

Best regards.

Karl

Good luck Mark. Let's hope they are as good at sorting this out as we all hope they are :)

Thanks for your input Karl - very much appreciated when a problem can be confirmed by another member, even though it is an unwanted issue.

I've a 1.6 crdi and I've noticed this last week that I've got some hesitancy between 1st and 2nd.

Now. I wonder if it's related too the fuel filter light flickering some weeks ago.  Hasn't flickered since I refueled.

Anyway due a service next month so I'll mention it then.

Hi all,

I have a Kia 2.0 CRDi Pro_Ceed. It has the same engine as the i30 and I am getting this exact same issue. My car is a late 2009 vehicle.

My car is in the dealer as I type this with the same issue and as expected they "cant find an issue".

Can anyone confirm if this has been resolved on the i30?

Thanks.

Hi, no news regarding a fix for this from the Hyundai side of things. There was one other car I know of that had the same issue at the dealers I go to and that belonged to the sister of the Service Manager. But they were checking with other owners as well I believe.

From what I understand it is related to the EGR system, as mentioned by Karl.

I have now got used to this little quirk over the colder months. When it's warm I don't seem to suffer from it, so could also be to do with the winter/summer fuel mixes too.

As an aside, it was getting a little more noticable prior to the 37,500 mile service, but post service it is a lot better, as the fuel filter has now been changed. Replacement of the fuel filter was changed from the 25,000 to the 37,500 mile service.

Thanks for the reply all.

I  have just finished on the phone with my dealer and they have confirmed they have replicated the fault.

They had a Kia Carens (same engine) in a few weeks ago with the same issue, and they replaced the EGR and cleaned the surrounding parts.

They have informed me the new EGR valve should be in stock within 24 hours and once it’s in they will fit it, the car will also need the DPF regenerated.

I will report on the status of the car once the work has been done.

Just wondering if it helped to change the EGR Valve?

Hi!
I talked to Hyundai Sweden today and they say that a new ECU software is now available to fix the problem...
The problem may be a bit annoying, but does not damage the engine ...

If you go to get the fix done don't forget to find out what the new ECU version is they are applying, it will no doubt help others to get theirs fixed.

My dealer is now downloading the new ECU software and i will upgrade to the new software tomorrow...
Hyundai has sent a message to all service workshops about this and that there is a new firmware available for download...
This upgrade applies only to the 2.0 CRDi and is a fix for hesitancy about 2000 rpm... It will fix the "communication" between the EGR valve and the ECU..
On my car this only appears sometimes in warm weather (above 15-20C)...and in first or second gear...

Instead of waiting till tomorrow phoned today and managed to speak to the service manager at my local dealers and he is aware of the fix being made available the other side of the North Sea and the Channel, but nothing over here! He is still on the case though. Also mentioned the EGR valve change mentioned above, but need to know if it worked before pursing that avenue.

Hi!
My ECU is now  "flashed" with a new firmware.  :)

OLD Firmware: 39113-27750 (Yellow)
OLD Rom ID: C0FDDM0EI02D (Yellow)

NEW Firmware: 39113-27751 (Pink)
NEW Rom ID: C0FDDM0EI04D (Pink)

I will report on the status of the car after more driving.
"Hope this annoying issue is gone now"

Cheers!

Is this hesitancy problem present with every 2.0 CRDi? Or just unlucky ones? i think i have youngest 2.0 (2010) here on the forum so should i bother or not to ask dealership to check this out?
I'm still very much new to driving a diesel so i can easily mistake that hesitancy with turbo lag...

Hi!
Not all 2.0 CRDi has this annoying problem...
It feels like a "misfireing" on a petrol engine...
On my car it only happens sometimes in temperatures above 15C-20C.
After the update the problems is almost gone with almost no turbolag at all, but the engine does not feel as strong/fast as before...
Before the update, it was easy to reach a speed of 200 km/h. After the update it takes a little bit more time to reach 200km/h...
So maybe i will reprogram the ECU back to the old firmware... Or wait for a new firmware...

What about chip tuning? You'll get extra power to compensate for that "slugish" run toward 200km/h, still no lagg, better economy...?

Hi!
A new EGR valve is now mounted...
Still use the new ECU firmware...

No hesitancy at all and the power is back again.  :) :) :)

I had a call from the dealers on the 13th, the 2.0 CRDi software update has made it across to the UK. The Service Manager has had it on test on his sisters car for the last three weeks and it appears to do the job, so the cars booked in for this Wednesday to be updated.

Hopefully this fixes the issue, as it has become a bit more prevalent of late in these mixed temperatures we've been having here in the UK.
