Big Rooster had 20 stores across Papua New Guinea in 2017 (Wikipedia)
The chain was purchased by Coles Myer and its Australian operations were rebranded to become part of the Red Rooster chain
"MELBOURNE: Retailer Coles
Myer Ltd almost doubled its presence
in Australia's fast-food chicken market
with the addition of Queensland's Big
Rooster to its Red Rooster chain yes-
terday.
The combination means the number
of outlets operated by Coles Myer
jumps to 236 from 138 and gives it
representation for the first time in the
competitive Queensland market.
Big Rooster has 92 outlets in
Queensland, four in Papua New Guin-
ea and two in the Northern Territory.
The business was bought from Aus-
tralian Fast Foods Pty Ltd for an un-
disclosed sum. Coles Myer refused to
comment on the price, saying it is sub-
ject to a confidentiality agreement.
Most of Big Rooster's outlets are
company owned, but Coles Myer said
46, including the PNG and NT stores
were franchised.
