Yeehaaah!

Letter from iiNet.

Dear Mr Surferdude,
The NBN is now available to your address.

 :happydance: :happydance: :happydance: :happydance:

Now, I just have to decide whether to stay with them (14 years so far), or give Aussie BB a go. Hear lots of good things about then, including their Australian Help Desk.

Had our NBN hooked up about two weeks now and loving it, went with TPG due to good service with several other friends, it’s been faultless so far holding speeds between 45 to 48Mbps in peek time on the unlimited 50 plan at $69 a month which was $10 cheaper than Aussie Broadband.

Mine was due in Dec 2016 various points through 2017 and 2018 before being downgraded to an unexpected date.  It is now saying it will be ready in March 2019. The node thingies have been in place since late 2016....

That happened to my son in Jindalee.
He's still waiting even though the connection is onto the outside wall of his house. Supposed to be connected this quarter.

Who were you with before?
iiNet is the same as Aussie BB but gives you free phone connection.  Aussie wants another $10/m.

Peek time huh?

Deal done with iinet.
Modem and NBN box on the way.
Connection is already done in the pit outside our house so should just be a matter of plug and play.

Was with Telstra previously, only because we had to :disapp: we were glad to get rid of the landline phone as well since the mobiles are all unlimited calls anyway including international.

You’ll find all NBN providers have to state a minimum speed for peek periods ( 5pm - 11 pm ) Aussie and TPG are the same at 45Mbps whereas Telstra say 42Mbps and cost $30 dollars more for the same plan as TPG :crazy1:

I don't know much at all about the speeds as I can't feel nothing!
& as I've always been mobile phone and mobile wi fi, for me NBN or bb or phone land line, not  part of what I use.
but I found it faster & cheaper going from Optus to Telstra, I never get excess charges it always works, internet & u tube work no hold ups just click & they go. cost's me $74 a month internet & mobile phone, never excess.
two friends one almost next door both I think NBN one Telstra one dodo both having problems ( the Telstra mate in bush more but still only 15k from me) tetra mate had two new wi fi modems sent out still no go, but his area there is no mobile coverage like I have. guy next door only started with dodo unlimited ( I always laugh when people tell me they have unlimited, as how I see it is if u can't get online or your speed is slow you are limited ) he started with them only last month he was happy but now has trouble and there are so many add on charges. both my friends are online a lot or on Foxtel on there smart tv. I don't watch tv all day & no Foxtel  I like it free.

After a couple of false starts, the hardware arrived today.
I actually read the manuals before proceeding.   :goodjob2:
Then about 10 minutes to hook up and reprogram all my wifi devices.

The directions said it could take a few days for the phone to work.
It was working by the time I finished the connection.

Currently (off peak) fluctuating between 37 and 46 Mbps.
I can live with that.

Two desktops, a laptop, 2 tablets and two phones all updated.

Checked the Red Bull TV site which I use for WRC but half the time can't get it to play. Played straight away.
Checked Netflix which can take several minutes to buffer. Played straight away.

Welcome to the 21st Century for the Suferdude household.

Since we went NBN I've taken 25 speed test readings, at various times, including peak periods (early evening).

The average is 45.25 Mbps.
Highest was just now at 48.06.

Gotta be happy with that.

And despite the naysayers telling me all sorts of horror stories about regular drop outs, we've had none yet. Touch wood.
