Servicing
So Iím about to have my car serviced for itís 6th time (72m service) and the 6 years I have owned it, every service has only involved engine oil and filter with the odd fuel filter on one of them and an air filter on this upcoming service and tyre rotation.  Everything else is a massive list of ďinspect, inspect, inspect etcĒ.  Do you think anyone has realistically ever done these inspections?

Given the number of cars each dealership churns over each day and the fact that most staff doing these services must be SO bored changing oil and their reluctance to look at anything out of the ordinary that gets asked of them to check making it easier to just come back with ďno fault foundĒ or something like that, which means you need to ...

Door Locking
Iíve got the new generation i30 and Iím having issues with the door handles sticking. The handles pull out ok but I need to push them back in, they sometimes wonít go back in themselves. Iíve managed to free off the driver one with WD40 but the passenger handle is still sticking. Anyone else have this issue?

Steering
Hi All.
my car has done around 120k and i think it might be time to do the fluids.
I bought the car at 80k, but I doubt these were done at all.

Is it time? If so, what product available in Australia do you recommend?

Thank you!!!!!

Handbrake
Hi Folks,

Long story short, I drove about 10 miles today with the handbrake 50% engaged. I eventually saw the warning light on the dash.

BUT... shouldn't there be an audible alarm or bell like the seat belt alarm when you start driving with it engaged?

Radio
So down the rabbit hole I go.

Was going to go all out but have wound it back to a basic install comprising off 2 x Rockford Fosgate 10" shallow subs 1 x Rockford Fosgate 5 channel amp and front component speakers (still not determined but most likely Hertz or Focal).

For now I will be using LOC's for the signal but if this proves unsatisfactory I'll add something along the lines of an Audiocontol LC8i

Power wise I'll leave the OEM battery for now but add a 2 farad cap into the system, I had the same in my Mazda 3 which had a bigger install and it proved OK but time will tell and if I need more storage and a bigger alternator then so be it.

Awaiting delivery of the amp and subs but thought I would ...

Tyres
Hi all, fairly new to this forum. Just wanted to weigh in with my experience and observations using winter tyres. My commute is semi-rural into town along well gritted routes with only two unloved country hills and a hilly 1/2 mile private road with no activity whatsoever.

For the past 10 years, I've had a second set of wheels fitted with winter tyres for all of my cars. At first, Goodyear Ultra Grip and then Nokian WR D3 and D4. Always mounted on either 2nd hand alloys or the original wheels (new, smarter wheels used for the summer). I store the wheels on a vertical wheel stack safely in the garage so that they don't go square.

Usually, this has been a great option. Normally get 2-3 years (read: winters) out of each s...

Seatbelt
Wanted to post some pictures and a quick breakdown of the process. Brand new i30 SR owner, had the car for almost two weeks.

The fronts seats don't have any cover on them, but for the rear I want some covers due to my son regularly being a grub and our dog sometimes being in the back.

I did plenty of googling and didn't find much, other than this site: :link: Car Seat Covers - Premium Quality, Lowest Prices?. I ordered the rear covers in neoprene and they arrived around a week later.

Then the fun of fitting them started. If you want to do the same, here's how:

1. Remove the rear bench seat.

All my previous cars had front foldi...

Clutch
Hi all,

6.5 year old FD i30 6 speed manual i30 and problems are starting to creep in. Every issue I have had, I google and up crops someone else with the issue on this forum (clutch shudder, broken power window).

I've noticed my clutch bite point is now starting only a few cm off the floor. Which means that I have to be super careful to push it all the way to the floor to change gears. If it's even a cm off from fully down you can run into resistance pushing it into gear.

I see someone has commented that they had this problem and that it may have been a damper issue on the master cylinder.

Steering
Hi, I know this issue has been posted a number of times.. I suspect my recently bought 2013 i30 (50K km) has the issue with the worn star shaped bush in the steering unit. It has a knocking noise in the steering column felt/heard only when stationary. Didn't notice it when buying the car but is has gradually become more noticeable over the last couple of months. Just wondering whether anyone can recommend a decent mechanic in Brisbane who can replace the bush at a reasonable price.   Thanks in advance..

Clutch
Hi All,

I am hoping to get a bit of technical advise.

I was told yesterday that the release/thrust bearing on my i30 is damaged/faulty, this is a warranty part so the dealership is happy to replace at their cost, however I've now been told that my clutch is gone and needs to be replaced.

The question I have is can the clutch become damaged/worn because of the faulty/damaged release/thrust bearing?

Thanks so much! :D
