Amazingly spooky. I was just splitting the "watch" posts out when it started failing - didn't know it was already being done

Well, Daz, you definitely read my thought - I was thinking of creating a separate topic  :) :goodjob2:

I have owned a few watches so far: the first one was a Russian made, mechanical; then I replaced it with Orient mechanical autowinding. For the time being I do have another Orient watch and one Casio for running and bicycling.

Does anyone use an automatic winding device, by the way?

My first watch was similar to this one, except for a background picture

What Russian watches lack mostly is a design in my opinion.

I have a Rolex Oyster and bracelet given to me as a long service award when I worked in the Middle East (They regarded 5 years as long service ) It's only a stainless steel one though with gold trim. I rarely use it preferring one of my 3 Citizen eco drives.

My late wife had a gold Rolex Oyster at the same time - I sold it in the UK for £5,750 after she died.

Wearing a watch is unfashionable these days, most would rather use a mobile phone...  :Pout:
:Yeah: :crap:

YES, I do...I'm talking about traditional watches, not these mini computers strapped to your wrist which, as an aside, are able to display the time!

I think you're out of touch with reality Rusty, classic watches are as popular as ever especially in the designer ranges, take a walk into Smales and you'll see that the vintage classic look has and will never die out plus all the new oversized face models that are all the trend now as well as the new ceramic watches.

New surf branded models popup continually and the amount of new Swiss brands coming onto the market now is mind boggling.

I'm not saying there aren't still people buying traditional watches...  :head_butt:

What I see though is that many people now don't bother with a watch, instead they just look at the time on their mobile phone...
Of those that do wear a watch, many now seem to be sporting a smartwatch or some sort of fitness based watch...

That's the "reality" I see....  :undecided:

Yeah, I'm actually surprised how many on here still have fancy conventional watches considering what you are saying Russell.

I'm a bit late to this thread, but I have a few watches.

I'm currently wearing my "work" watch.  It is a Casio G-shock Aviation watch.  Good timekeeping and solar powered, with a convex lens that doesn't allow you to blind the other pilot with the reflection!  It also has UTC time, an important time in my profession.  Very easy to change time-zones too (and it has Adelaide/NT time, but not NL time).  When I am in range of the time signal (unfortunately not in Australia) it updates the time automatically each day.  I purchased this one on eBay from the USA.

:link: GW3000B-1A - G-Shock - G-Shock, Mens, Tough, Aviator, Analog, Digital, Watches | CASIO America, Inc.

I have my "yard work" watch at home, which is also a Casio G-shock.  It is just a basic digital watch with NVG compatible lighting.  This was purchase in a PX in the USA.  Very tough watch which has had many scrapes and bangs against the side of ships and aircraft.  Again, it is solar powered.

My dress watch is a Seiko that I purchased in Hong Kong last year.  Just a basic analogue watch in silver.  No special features other than a stop watch.

I also have a Tag Heuer "copy" watch that I purchased in Dubai a few years back.  It is similar in look to this one.  Very accurate for a copy watch.

:link: Aquaracer 300M Calibre 5Automatic Watch40.5mm Blue ?sunray? Polished steel bracelet | TAG Heuer

Being a professional aviator, I love Breitling watches.  I have a copy watch, again from Dubai, although this one isn't very good.  Poor timekeeping and the date would go to the 39th of each month.

The one I would like is the following:

:link: Breitling Cockpit B50 - Multifunction pilot's chronograph

or this one:

:link: Breitling Emergency - Swiss watch with personal locator beacon

However, I don't see the need for having a built in EPIRB, unless it is for the "wank" factor.  "Look at my watch, it has an EPIRB!"

My sons very rarely wear a watch, even though they have them.  They just look at their phone for the time.  It seems that the older generation (and I include myself in that) are generally the ones that wear watches that aren't anything but watches.

Way back before wearing the genuine Breitling, I got myself a couple of very convincing knock-offs when deploying to Malaysia on exercise. I still have all of them.

Among them is this:
"ns"

and this:

I also was given a nice Seiko 5Actus Automatic by a friend of the family when I was a teenager:
"ns"

While in AFG I was given a Timex Ironman watch because the ex US Army Colonel employed there as a G13 couldn't understand it:
