Well here's the fourth in my series of walks, well actually it's not, it's a little village just 10 minutes drive from our home called Forth. In fact, we've decided to go to the Bridge hotel pictured for lunch later today!

Quite happy with some of the photos considering i'm only using a phone. Quite an old town with lots of nice cottages and even an unfinished project. Click on the pictures for a better look (the reflections ones look good a bit bigger)

I know I sound like a broken record Dazz, but great photos. Tassie looks so laid back & rural, really nice. I was born in busy London England so I really appreciate the nice scenery.  :goodjob2:

I have often thought my ideal job would have been a Tassie tour guide or working in a tourist bureau. I never get sick of touring Tassie or singing its praises.  :happydance: :victory:

By the way, we had a great lunch and my SR even had a cool new friend (with a 450 HP - V8 engine) :goodjob:

Start up Dazz's self-drive tours.
People could follow you along your chosen route with info stops every now and then,  lunch etc sorted at your fav place.
Or,
You could do commentary along a chosen routes,  turn here , follow so far blah, should be passing blah ,  bit of history  etc . Load them onto a stick or cd .

Your PD would become your work vehicle,  tax deduction   :happydance:  👍

Dazz

Not yet. I try to get home by about 9 or 9.30am before the UV gets too savage and if I walk at night it's after 5.30 again because of the high UV at this time of the year. If I was fiddling around taking wheels on and off and loading it in the car I'd have no time to ride. Our road is too dangerous and steep in places for me to ride out of...

On Boxing Day, my daughter and I walked from her unit at South Brisbane, through the South Bank Parklands and across the footbridge to QUT, then along the river opposite the Kangaroo Point cliffs, through the old Botanic Gardens, along in front of all the riverside restaurants around Pier One, on and under the Storey bridge where the old Water Police headquarters used to be and is now being developed into units, shops and open space. From there, onto the River Walk towards New Farm and a bit of a stroll through some of that suburb before catching the free Brisbane Hopper ferry back to South Bank where we rewarded ourselves with Magnums.
I think it was about 7½ klms.

Massive fig on the edge of QUT.

Looking towards the CBD from the walkway along the Botanic Gardens.

Looking across the river towards Kangaroo Point.

The old Customs House and the tree in this pic have been preserved. The developers have to protect the tree as they build.

Heading towards the Storey Bridge

Under the Bridge.

Lots happening under the Bridge.

That is a SERIOUS fork lift.

Looking back just before the River Walk.

You can climb this bridge. (with a tour)

The River Walk. That's a Bunya Pine top centre.

Awesome old, well preserved building on the river.

The free Brisbane Hopper which took us back in comfort.

Map of our route.

My daughter can see things like Riverfire (and New Years' fireworks) without leaving her lounge room. Except ATM she's in Singapore.

Brilliant, must be great to be able to do that. Takes us nearly an hour on the train from the Gold Coast.

So I had to go a bit further aFIELD today. To ShefFIELD (town of murals - there are literally hundreds of them) but there is a lot more to see including Mount Roland and lots of interesting buildings, some old and some new.

To make it even better the 30 minute scenic drive is a great driver's road. I've pinched Trevor's idea and included a bit of a map to show recent places I've visited in relation to where we live.

Mount Roland in the background (larger than it looks)

View showing some of the old buildings in the main street.

Just a handful of the murals (there are heaps on and around the buildings)

This one is just in someone's driveway!

I had a coffee and a couple of cookies here..  :victory:

A very interesting and quirky shop..

24 Hour Piano out the front.

Local Pub

Bit weird (Eiffel Tower in someone's yard)

Old CHurch converted to a house

Local Museum

Interesting old home

Interesting newer home

Actually run a steam train from here once a fortnight I think.

Love this old garage

That's all for now folks...

This one probably fits into the category of a "Walk Down Memory Lane" than a walk for exercise. But provided me with an unexpected link with my long gone Dad.
The day after Boxing Day I drove my daughter to Coolangatta Airport where she was catching a flight to Singapore. After she checked in, I drove to Greenmount Beach and parked up the top of the headland where I took some pics.
Then, something sent me walking pack to where the road comes up from the Coolangatta beachfront. Just behind the clubhouse is a set of narrow concrete steps from the walkway which goes right around the front of the headland, up to the lookout.
Back in 1964/65 my Dad had his own small business, Tugun Engineering and he was contracted to make some handrails for the installation of these steps.
To cut a long story short, those handrails are still there. Dad passed away at Christmas 1965, so they have over 50 years service up.

The little side braces have been added somewhere along the way.

Dad used to thread the ends like this so sections could be transported then joined with a little threaded collar.

There's some surface rust but it has been treated and painted so it would seem the Council is still maintaining them.

I posted this story on the FB page Coolangatta of the 50's, 60's and 70's and the response has been remarkable. Including one of my long time rallying friends who goes down there with her family, surfing who uses the stairs regularly and often remarked on how old they were but still serviceable.

I have to say I stood about halfway down and put my hand on the rail - found it quite emotional.

Here's the view from the lookout across Rainbow Bay to Snapper Rocks. Just a small crowd of surfers for this spot.

Some of the responses on FB.

Kerrie Miller I have held on to those rails many times Trevor 🤗 Thanks Reg

Kerrie Miller Just passed them again today - will be a constant reminder for me now too, to know the man behind those rails

Gary Syrett Great stairs, try to do a 10 lap run as often a possible.

Paul Butschek Trev - Great memory of your Dad and his ongoing legacy.

Karen Ellery Pritchard Been walking up and down these stairs for 43 years....yep same handrails...how cool is that that your dad made them. ..a lot of history in this area...a lot has been destroyed unfortunately.

Annie Yvonne Lampe As a child I spent many years with my family at Greenmount/ Rainbow beach, I always loved climbing those stairs, such a fond memory

Deloraine is roughly 30 minutes from home also (half way between Devonport and Launceston) It can get cold in the winter and I wasn't a big fan 40 years ago when I used to relieve at the local ANZ bank, but I like the place now! Was lucky to get some more great reflections!

Great places to walk with plenty of tracks and not too many hills (although Deloraine can some steeper areas.)
