Mine is i30 MY16 manual 1.8 unleaded bought in Melbourne.

From the very beginning, the clutch played up a little when it stalled on 1st gear when i started to clutch out.
There were also grinding noise when getting into 3rd gear from time to time.

Then it's up around 82,000km when the clutch started to fail where i could not get into gears, randomly.
Got the mechanic to flush the clutch fluid and it got me through to 95,000km where i could not get into gears totally!

Lube mobile took the gearbox off and found the clutch damper disc is broken, see photos.

It is definitely not a owner issue as it is not the wear and tear of the clutch plate but the clutch damper disc.

The clutch damper disc must be a strong part to last the km as like a flywheel, don't you think so?

I called Hyundai Warranty customer service and the lady said the warranty on clutch is only 12MONTHS OR 20,000KM!

Guys, before you buy any car, don't put the warranty as a factor in considering buying any vehicle as they will always find a way to exempt you from their WARRANTY!!

:welcome: and thanks for the warning.

To be fair, Hyundai is considered one of the best at honouring their warranties.

Because clutches can have variable wear due to driving techniques most manufacturers assess each clutch warranty claim on a case by case basis.

I am surprised the Warranty lady put a kilometre limit on it. I think you have a good case to argue. i would get a report from the mechanic stating the clutch is not worn but broken and send photos and the report to Hyundai Australia.

If they are not receptive then threaten to take it to the ACCC.

Be tactful but firm. Good luck.

The warranty condition that applies is:

The replacement of consumable components normally replaced
or repaired in the process of routine maintenance servicing, which
include but are not limited to: lubricants, fluids, coolant inhibitor/
anti freeze, refrigerant, filters and filter elements, drive belts, spark
plugs, fuses, spark plug leads, gaskets and oil seals, shim/packing,
batteries, clutch and brake friction linings, brake disc rotors -
including machining, exhaust systems, light bulbs, wiper blades
and arms, all hoses and attaching devices.

It seriously took me 1 minute to find this. Hyundai put it on their web site, so it is not hidden.

It would have been worth checking the terms of the warranty and standing your ground rather than letting Lube mobile fix it. The fob off isn't right, but you are going to have fun trying to fight this now because

Owner responsibility.
To ensure the validity of this warranty, the Owner must:
• Ensure that all services are carried out as per the scheduled
maintenance and service requirements, and the service history
coupons stamped by an authorised repairer.
• Keep detailed service invoices for review whenever requested.
• Present the vehicle Service Passport to the authorised Hyundai
Dealer whenever requesting warranty service.
Deliver the vehicle to an authorised Hyundai dealer for all warranty
repairs.

I didn't pick up any animosity, I'm usually highly tuned for that! Anyway I have the impression that the author won't bother responding to our feedback. Hope I am wrong.  :undecided:
