I have a 2012 i30 Trophy (FD model)...the dealer was fixing something else and now has said I need to bring the car back for a recall. It apparently is a replacement needed of the LCD panel where the odometer reading is displayed etc. I asked him for a link so I can look at the recall online, and he said it is not available and this recall has only gone to dealers.

The place is a reputable Hyundai dealer, I've used them quite a few times. They ordered the new part and want me to come back which I will do, but I just thought it was quite odd that this recall is kept hush hush with the dealers and not made public/no one contacted directly from Hyundai ?

I asked him what will happen if I don't do it and the only consequence is it might stop working.

Has anyone heard of this recall or manner of recall administration?

you had two x lcd screen fail? So I should definitely go ahead and get it replaced free under recall by the sound of it?

Yes, may as well. They are not going to advertise it.  There are an awful lot of them about.

I do know of this.

Its not a recall and i was unaware that it was flagged on VIN's.
It will only be carried out if the LCD is malfunctioning and the cluster falls into a certain batch field.

Maybe I need to contact my local then. I have 2 2008 models , 1 with nearly 400000k and the other 240000K on original clusters, no issues. The Mrs car is 2010, flickering display, replaced it with another which also may have been from 2010, same thing has happened.

It's the LED backlights burning out. already refurbed my spare. Super frustrating though that 9 years after manufacture this info comes to surface.

If it's not a recall , then I guess it's a TSB so who out there is likely to be ringing up after 9 years asking for it to be fixed for free?

Yes, but like Tim said it's not a recall. If it was I'd likely have a notice in the mail. Service bulletin likely.
