Hi all,

Noticed a clicking/ticking noise from the front drivers side wheel after any period of prolonged braking.  When I say prolonged, this could be 10 seconds of braking to keep the speed in check when going down a steep hill.  The noise is present when the brakes are applied and also after they've been released, however the noise will slowly fade away after the car has traveled 100 yards or so.  The noise is quite loud when it happens!

Any ideas what it could be?

Thanks.

What sort of mileage have you done? Wondering if the pads on that side are getting close to life (although brakes generally last a long time on i30's)

Although, thinking out aloud... Do you have much brake dust build up on your wheels? The Wife's 2014 GD tourer appears to have soft pads (lots of dust) :undecided:

Just coming up to 38,000 miles, wheels are a bit dusty.

So pad wear could be a possibility ( but probably other causes more likely) :undecided:

Yes, as much as I could, got a pic, do the pads look thin?  Sorry for the crappy angle.

My money would be on a foreign object somewhere in the drive train. Check shafts etc, it may not be near the wheel.

Do these have anti squeal shims?

If so, then may be need cleaning.

Not sure tbh, they're the genuine Hyundai pads if that helps?

No.

Any opinions on the pads?  Worth changing?

Have you tried swapping wheels around to see if the clicking goes with it?  :undecided:

Put if this way, it's making the noise with the wheel off and rotating the hub by hand.

I got another picture through the slot of the caliper, the red line is where the pad meets the disc (pad to the right, disc to the left):

I test drove a 1.4 2011 petrol yesterday and it did this too, although couldn't be sure of the source of the 'click'. It happened right at the end of braking as the car literally 'jolts' / comes to a stop. I didn't necessarily think it was a fault and have bought the car which is delivered next week. Should I be worried then? The only other car I have had was a Seat Ibiza 1.4 2002 with absolutely shockingly slow gradual brakes, and so didn't know what I was comparing really.
