Hi Guys,

just wondered if im the only one out there that has had their drivers seat cover replaced?

A few weeks after delivery at Easter this year I noticed the drivers seat upper O/S/F bolster was showing signs of wear and the surface material  had scuffed off on the edge in places. This was inspected at the 1 month service and replaced under warranty a month or so later.

I took the car back to the dealership on Monday for them to inspect the seat again as the same wear in the same place is beginning to happen again. This time, Hyundai have rejected the warranty claim stating that the seat is worn :crazy1:

I rang Hyundai customer care today to ask why it was acceptable to replace the seat cover after earlier in the year, but not now. The car is 6 months old and has travelled c 6000kms.  They said they would call back.

I think this will be my first and last Hyundai

Jeepers you are having a bad run. I can't comment on the seat wear as I have seat covers on mine. I recall you have also been affected by the starting issue.  :crazy1:

Without being rude, are you a larger build? We had an ex-member who was a big guy (6 foot and probably 130 kgs) who had a similar issue with his FD driver's seat and door rubbers (driver's side) which was refused under warranty.  :undecided:

Not saying it's your fault just interested to see if drivers size/build comes into the equation.

I've had my PD SR since December last year and drive it infrequently as we have more than 1 car in the family.  As a result it has done only 4000km in 10 months.

I've had zero problems so far and have been very happy with the cars performance. BUT, I too have noticed excessive creasing and wear on the right hand side seat bolster on the drivers seat.  (And before the question is asked I am average weight and average height  :P)

Not very happy at all.

Welcome Barney,

Thanks for that. That is a bit of a worry! Like I said, I have mostly had seat covers on my SR seats. I did have a period where I took the drivers one off to test the comfort without, but because I don't have a premium with heated seats I found them a bit cold so only did it for a couple of months.

Be interesting to see how many others give negative feedback in this thread (or positive would be good too)

Administrator Comment So can SR members with bare seats please comment on their seat wear with length of ownership and mileage.

Can't say I have seen any wear with mine..    The car has now done 14,300ks. With myself doing 11.000ks since I got the car in May this year..

Though I do clean / protect the seat with this: :link: Gold Class Leather Conditioner - 473mL | Supercheap Auto
Which does make the seat look & feel heaps better...

Hi Again.

I've attached a picture of the wear.

The car is a 2018 build ...so now its c 6 months old with under 6000kms.

The entire seat cover was replaced in late June 2018 (reported at first month check) without any bother or questions.

Similar wear is happening again, in the same place....this time I'm getting the runaround from Hyundai. :crazy1: its as if the surface scuffs off. I'm waiting to hear back from Hyundai Customer Care(?) after calling them again...they were supposed to call back on Thursday.

As for my size etc, I'm 6ft 2 and weigh c 105kgs.....so not a slim, short Korean, but no where near Jabba the Hut either :P

I too clean the interior regularly with a leather cleaner.

I had heard that the seat panel costs in excess of $3000, now that's expensive vinyl if true!, so you'd expect it to be durable.

Thanks for the reply and picture. Seeing your 6'2" and 105 kg I'm glad you didn't take offence to my question.  :D  I'm not overweight just 4 inches shorter than I should be. Hope you get it sorted again.  :crazy1:

Hey guys, i'm a similar build, but haven't had any trouble with it fraying like that. Only creases in the leather which im now conditioning.

Dazzler, what seat covers do you use?
I wouldn't mind some but can't stand the cheap ill fitting supercheap auto ones.

Yes, on a point of clarification - that is exactly the type of wear I am experiencing on my seat.  Nothing like the fraying on the side of the seat back shown in the OP post.

I'll take your lead and apply some conditioner.

I just had a good look at mine in good daylight.   Can't see any wear at all.  Seats still look new.   Only thing I have is with the steering wheel..
The top of the wheel, the leather is not as smooth as the rest of the wheel..     I'm 5"11 & 90kg.

Only thing I can think of is do you where a belt, or a clip on key ring of some sort??   Looks like there is something rubbing to cause that. That is just not normal clothing.

My SR has 12.000 kms and about 14 months old. Wearing in similar place to OP, in fact not noticed it before. The leatherette appears not as supple as surrounding area. I'm 80kg, 5 foot 7.5 inches thus a short arse Dazz :whistler:

I do use luxury leather conditioner but not as often as I probably should. It's at that seat bolster area where jeans, belt & loops catch getting in and out

And Bombers blow the crap out of all of you

I had wear like that on the old FD with the fabric seats.

No issues on the deceased i40 and the replacement seems to be doing ok as well....

Yeah. Sometimes I'm more embarrassed about the club.  So many things have gone wrong internally.

UPDATE: Well for the past few weeks i've had the pleasure(?) of dealing with the Hyundai Customer (don't) Care Centre. They've confirmed that the warranty claim has been denied but cannot give me a straight answer explaining why the seat cover was replaced under warranty without fuss back in June BUT now after a similar period of time and with an identical fault, this warranty claim has been rejected.

Sam, the representative i've dealt is polite and very apologetic and apparently too snowed under to return my calls. :crazy1:

That "leather" interior is just a cheap version knock off, it looks good when new but it just wont last in Oz. The SR would look so much better with a regular cloth interior. The cloth seats in my 19 year old subaru still look in excellent condition after 220000Ks.
