Hey lads and ladies ,
I've to look at a i30 for a mate tomorrow .
The story goes ,
It ran out of diesel , now it won't start unless pushed.
It will crank fast all day .
It's got fresh fuel and the primer pump gets pressure when pumped.

May be unrelated but the clutch is also gone ,
Not slipping , just goes in gear .

Any heads up would be great before I go look .

I did try scan it today but my computer is too old and wouldn't link so I'm going back for a good root tomorrow.

When DIESELS run out of fuel, you have to prime the system using the hand pump at the fuel filter.

Started this last night but huge storm blew up the NBN

This is curious, if it starts and drives ok when you crash start (push) the car, everything is working as it should....engine, pumps etc.

The fast crank suggests good battery, and apart from healthy glow plugs and pumped fuel, that's all you need to start a diesel. Even with crook plugs it will eventually start.
The starter motor is engaging properly and spinning the motor ?????
Check the air intake, is it choked when trying to crank start vs. crash start. Look for what changes when you switch ignition on then switch to crank.

I take it you mean when you say it won't start unless pushed, once the engine is running  the car does move along the road using the gears,  double declutching, to increase speed, as you say the clutch has also gone

Or do you mean the engine is running but can not start movement from stationary as you can not get the car into first as the clutch has gone.

I think they remedied  "It ran out of diesel , now it won't start unless pushed".
But you may be right. Not sure about normal traffic flow in Ireland.

 I think what nzenigma said about the starter engaging is the best clue. Op said it will crank fast all day, obviously wont start if not engaging.  Op said it would start if pushed. Being diesel I cant see any reason why it would not start if the starter is engaging.

IIRC, the diesel engine has a flap in the air pipe which closes when switched off. Presumably to stop a runaway engine scenario. Could it be possible that it it is remaining closed when cranked, but not when push started

I got a snap on scanner . The key or key reader is at fault . Immobilizer fault logged.  It started on easy start but ran like a pig

I would hve thought if immobilizer was faulty then even a push start wouldn't start it due to the immobilizer preventing the ecu to operated.

Exactly 
 Also never heard of fuel loss killing an immobiliser.

Almost NOT the key. Its an inert object.
Often it is the antenna coil, they can also be intermittent, but don't affect the motor's performance.
The original nonsense probably stems from some plonker who thinks every fault is caused by his inability to watch the fuel gauge.
In this case his car had some issue that still remains.
A thought, He did put DIESEL in ??????? not petrol ......late night at the pub and all?

Can you explain what was done/how it started on easy start.

If you have original key have you had it checked at dealers re program and or had it re programed

A locksmith can do that. But not the problem.
Just because a code comes up, it remains an indicator, that's all.
I usually, clear them and see if they re-occur.
Would like 'starts but runs like a pig' defined.
Does it keep running? If so, its not an immobiliser fault, or somehow it has been disabled  somehow.
. Same as push starting. If it could beat an immobiliser , every car thief would know about it by now.
If the thing fires up on the ether spray but stops afterward, its the same as any diesel that will self fuel in a flammable atmosphere.
