Hi all
Sorry to restart an old thread, but my door handle has suddenly stopped working.
Does anyone have the TSB number for this particular problem?
I'm not sure whether my Hyundai Dealer is going to play ball regarding supplying a cable. They were going to call me this morning but failed to do so.
Oh, mine's a 2010 i30 1.6 CRDi ....................... and I love it!
Keep up the outstanding work,

Slime  :goodjob2:

internal or external? Is there a TSB on the handles? I know the internal ones especially the chrome jobs are not durable.

Cheers, feels like same crap different day to me LOL.

Yep, we've got the Sun.

So, have you removed the door trim to check it out?
Is the cable broke or the handle?
Remove the shroud, pop the cover, reove single screw, slides over the handle, and you may get a good look, as you pull the handle out fully you can see if the hook has broken away?
I've had a couple simply break away where the cable hooks in, and I've had one explode out of the retainer as i open the door.

Not had a chance to look yet.
I'll probably get a chance over the next couple of days. I'll keep you posted.

I've just popped the door card off and the cable has snapped about ¾" from the interior door handle.
Tomorrow I'll be onto my local dealer ............ let battle commence!
I'll try for a free repair, although my car is out of warranty, but I'll mention that it's subject to a TSB.
The least I'll settle for is the supply of the cable only.
I don't rate my chances too highly but you never know.
I'll keep you all posted!

I spoke to my local dealer this morning and found them very helpful.
There are two open recalls on my car, a brake light switch and a heavy steering software update.
There is also a closed recall, (recall closed 31/01/2016), for my drivers' interior door handle cable!!
My car is booked in for the two recalls to be done on Monday next week.
I was also able to order the door handle cable without any problems at all, which did surprise me a little bit, but I think I surprised them by giving them the part number!
They asked whether I'd like them to fit said cable, I said only if it's fitted for free. I then explained that I was unaware of any recalls on my car as I've only had it for a short while and free fitment would be good. The girl said she'd make enquiries in time for next Monday.
They said they'd need the car all day, I said that's a bit inconvenient as their dealership is a bit out in the sticks, they said plaese enjoy one of our i20 courtesy cars for the day ..................... I like that.
So, in short, next Monday I will have two recalls done and either the door cable fitted for nothing or the cable supplied for a few pounds.
I think that's a reasonable result ....................... I'll let you know what happens next week.

well as you have removed the card etc may be they will do it as a goodwill.

ps
When I have loan car I drive on my own car insurance as I'm covered for loan car while my own is in dealers for repair or service, (will say so on your certificate)

If your insurance covers you I take it the loan is FOC, no fee for insurance cover, just pay for fuel.

Unfortunately I've had to put the door card back on the door so that I can operate the electric window to enable me to open the door without having to scooch accross and out through the passenger door!
I'm just not very bendy any more.

Sorry for the delayed report, I couldn't access this site for a couple of days!
Anyway, I collected the car on Monday to find they'd done the recall items but hadn't fitted the door cable.
I wasn't necessarily expecting that but I was VERY disappointed that they'd not even ordered the cable for me!!!
They said they'd get one in for this morning ........................... but I've heard nothing.
I'll call them in the morning to find out what is going on.
Oh, they had also done a health check and noticed that the driver's front door card had been removed ................ no shit, Sherlock!

Just called them and apparently the cable is now in, although they made no offer to fit it free!
It looks like I'll be doing it myself, or attempting to at least!

Quick update.
I'm unable to collect the cable and have arranged for someone to collect on my behalf.
Based on this I thought I'd pay for it in advance, which I have just done.
It cost me the princely sum of ............................... £5.44 including VAT!
I rekon that's a touch shy of AUD$9.
I just hope it's the correct part

I had the same problem here in Italy, my internal driver door handle stopped working. I asked for a change and got the part number for change under recall from the USA and Australia,  only that the Italian Hyundai franchise didnt opt for the recall, so they hit me with a quote for €220 plus Vat and work hours for a replacement. My local garage fixed the problem for €40 total. I was not amused to say the least as I also have a friend who works in Hyundai italy but i was given no assistance

I'm glad your local garage fixed it cheaply for you.
I'm down £5.44 at the moment and am attempting to fit it myself later on this week.

Update time ............................. eventually!
Today was the day I decided to fit the cable, and I won!!
It took me two hours but I reckon it could easily be done in 1¼ to 1½ hours.
What did I learn?
1. I'm not as stupid as I thought ....................... I'm usually a DIY disaster.
2. Don't do it whilst it's snowing. It was bloody cold & I kept having to dash inside to refer to the excellent video posted by petetherev.
:link: HOW TO: replace door cable (drivers door will not open from inside)
3. Make sure you have an extending magnet, the ones that look like old car radio aerials. Two or three times I managed to drop a bolt inside the door but the magnet saved me each time.

Everything works as it should now, but there is one disturbing side effect!
When I slide the electric window down, on the last half of it's journey, it makes a remarkable farting noise!!
I'm assuming there's an issue with the window rubber but, for the life of me, I can't figure out why.
It doesn't bother me yet as I find it quite funny .................... the novelty may wear off though.

I just thought I'd let you guys know that almost anyone can do this with a bit of patience, the right tools and, very important, good light. It's slightly more problematic when you're trying to hold a torch in your mouth as you definitely need two hands at times.
All the best,

Slime.

Lets hope the novelty does not wear off when the mechanism breaks. Could the  glass be misaligned?

I think you're probably right.
When the novelty wears off I'll realign the window glass and see what difference it makes.
