Red one had been farting just off idle, but going like the  beast  at full throttle for while. Removed carbs, dismantled,  cleaned jets & slides, found one that had somehow managed to jump nylon spacer under spring allowing needle jet to jump up very early, fixed that , reassembled. Still farting and occasional backfire.
 
Time for experienced body.
Cam chain stretched-replace, cam chain tensioner broken-replace, all "o"rings in 4 carbs replaced,  bowl gaskets, 4 mixture screws, carbs balanced, 4 cam cap threads heli-coiled,  set valve clearances, 4 plugs, 2 sets of throttle cables (1 as spare-have 4 of these bikes $125 a set), all other gaskets replaced if opened.
Running the quietest & best since I've had her.
Any guesses as to the price ?

Update No1 Red aka Princess.
After that repair,  when I picked her up, I filled the 22l tank. Only got to ride a few times,  had 1/2 left when Xmas  & the fires hit. Early Feb, I fired her up and couldn't turn choke off. 
(Choke is a plunger on all 4 carbs that move open to allow extra fuel to be sucked in system and close when pushed closed. )
Had to push lever very hard by hand and it ran crap, kept bogging down, wouldn't run. Back to shop, WTF said shop, hmm,  .
Short version: tank full of rust and crap and petrol stunk. PO had cut off the in tank filters and the inline 1 had collapsed filling carbs with basically caustic shit.
Tank also suffered rust attack. I supplied another petcock with good filters, inline 1 replaced, had to wait for new jets as they had shit stuck in them.
 Finally carbs reassembled and fitted and she ran    in the bike shop . 
  cough, splutter, fart, fart, cough , black smoke from pipes  .  Only running on 2&1/2 cylinders.
Multiple tests performed-all good.
Young-ish guy who runs shop says " no one touches this bike, its arse is mine".
He spent many  non- billable hrs on it and changed all o rings in carbs again, basically another rebuild and hey presto,  its alive. He was concerned about rust in tank and wanted to do a tank sealant process on it. He hadn't done one before but was really keen. He took a week to do it being super careful and was  when finished.
The bill was for all the parts and initial labour,  We've bonded, he learnt a new skill and income for his part. I've since placed an order of spare parts for them
all, 2k in 3 days  .
She's been back home for a week.

Yes, probably, but I was referring to rooting around with seals, o-rings and gaskets for each carby. Last one for me was a '92 VFR 750. Syncing that was a job and a half. Luckily didn't need it often. I now have 2 cylinder bikes (Honda parallel twin and BMW), all injected so other then the odd injector cleaning and aged rubber replacement, there is bugger all to do.
