Hi All,
My air conditioning stopped working over time, to the point the gas had dropped so low the compressor would not switch in.
So went to my local garage, who used their machine to vacuum any old stuff out, leak test/pressure test and regassed as per manufactuer information.
He then told me everything had passed ok, but it wasn't working properly.
I got in the car and it is cooler than the outside, the A/C compressor does click in and out when pressing the button. But its not super cold if you get me - my wifes car and my old cars would freeze your hand on the coolest setting.
Is there any common problems I need to look at?
- Change pollen filter? - but doubt that will effect the a/c temp itself
- Should the radiator fan come on when A/C is on?

Thermostat ??, that should have been set & checked, go back & tell them that its not that cold.
You paid for it to be fixed. Thermo fan usually kicks in on the coldest settings, I may be wrong on that.

Depends on the ambient temp in your area at the time. You can't expect to freeze hands when the air temp is quite cool. If it did you'd probably say that the AC is not working as it is too cold.

I wonder if they used the original HFC R-134a spec gas, or the [now] mandatory-for-new-vehicles HFO-1234yf refrigerant.
The new gas type doesn't get nearly as cold as the older one, imho.

We bought our i30 in dec 16 ,
wife kept turning A/C off as it was freezing her feet -set for fresh air and fan speed on 1, all summer.

Hi Jordie,
The guy i use always checks / alters the thermo setting with a digital thing , as thermo decides when the AC cuts in & out. All part of the service ☺

I hope my local service garage has all the correct gear. One in the City doing re charging for £49. My son has a Nissan X Trail because Nissan use a special fitting he had to go to a Nissan dealer cost him over £100. :Shocked:

My gd isn't as cold as my previous fd model.
Was told it was due to the different refrigeration used due to those @@@@@ in Brussels

The expansion valve fault is not uncommon according to my guy. When they do the regas, they will run the car and measure the temp at an interior vent. The last GD we did was running at 2 deg. C.
If you have climate control, there is a sensor behind the crash pad, it senses the temp and sends a signal to the ECU. A line switch in the tubes under the bonnet controls fan switching via the ECU. The fact that the compressor is engaging just means that you have gas pressure. After doing some repairs, I usually use compressed air from my system to test components and also for leakage, rather than waste time and money gassing a faulty system.

I had the same issue. I had to have the condenser replaced as there was a leak in it. The design and position of condenser means that muck gets straight into it from the front. A/C now works a dream. :)
