Hi all,

Just come across this today on my 09 comfort crdi 1.6 anyone had this before or has previous owner tried to cover up a fault?

Sounds like it didn't get the coolant changed as per schedule!

Do you think the best thing to do is get it flushed?

Still covered under our 3 months warranty, or do you think it would be best getting our money back?

Might be ok, but I would get an independent inspection by a friendly mechanic.

If you decide to keep it,  I would get it flushed. Hopefully it doesn't have a blown head gasket!  :undecided:

Looks almost like oil in the water...

It is OK on engine temperature, we travelled from Yorkshire to Scotland on Monday and all seemed ok.

Right ok, think we will take it to a garage when we get back, would head gasket normally be covered under a warranty?

Have you got a full service record? It should be as long as they don't try and pin it on you.

Bit hard to diagnose from 12,000 miles away.

It has full hyundai service history apart from the last one which was done by the local garage we bought it from. I think I will get my mate who is a mechanic to have a look when we get back. It does have a slight smell of exhaust gases(I think)

I am no mechanic/technician but over the last 50/60 years have been obliged to get stuck in a do my own car work more often than I would have liked....

Based upon that limited experience I would instantly suspect contamination either from a leaky head gasket, or from somewhere else???

If you flush the cooling system you'll be flushing away the evidence.

I would take it back, sooner than later.

good luck  :goodjob: :goodjob:

There's no signs of oil around the engine bay or near the headgasket that I can see, obviously doesn't mean there isn't an issue there though

Looks like someone mixed green with pink or red coolant. You will need to clean this mess and put right stuff in.
Your car takes green type coolant.

Remove the engine oil filler cap.

Is the underside of the cap just oil or is it whiteish sort of gunge?

The latter i think may show signs of gasket failure.

Also, what colour is the end of the exhaust pipe?

Depending on this colour it may indicate engine issues

Just another thought.

If the cap has failed, i.e. presure failure, then it will leak and on drying leave that mess.

The end of the oil cap is just oil as I checked earlier. I will check the exhaust when I get back to the car and let you know

The rubber seal did look a bit worn but there's no sign of it leaking out of the cap area. Will be back at the car in a couple of hours

If it is just poor service (mixed wrong coolants etc) I would ask the dealer to do a flush and use right coolant. If it is oil that is mixed with coolant, I would want my money back.

End of exhaust is black on inside as I would expect, fine on the outside.

What does the sludge smell like? Oil should have a distinct smell. That looks a lot like a car I once saw where the owner neglected to use antifreeze with brackish tapwater. A few months down the line it looked almost exactly like yours does
