I have an i30 Crdi Auto, which I purchased new in 2007, We have only done 70,000 miles . Now the auto box has packed in. It was reverse gear that broke followed by all subsequent forward gears . I have tried to get the 4 speed box repaired by two separate companies, but they tell me The parts they need are not available to buy. I have looked online for a second hand box, they are like rocking horse poo!
The only 2 options is putting a six speed and rewire the car or convert it to a manual! !!

Sorry to hear that. I think you are in Wales (I'm on tapatalk so less info available) Fortunately the i30 is a really good seller in Australia so 2nd hand parts are more available,  but that doesn't help you. I would imagine either of your alternative fixes would be a big job fraught with complications.  Be interested to hear what our mechanical gurus have to say!

I need to find out if a 4 speed auto from a 1.6 petrol will fit, I see a few of those boxes for sale. I just want to sell the car  . I have just bought a new suzuki,  will miss the i30. It has a fantastic engine.

I think you'll find it's not strong enough and the ratios will not match the diesel.

Is the old box totally cooked or is this a valve body failure?

Both mechanics told me that the box is fried!!!

I'm going to say the torque convertor housings are also different so it's not going to bolt up either to the engine block

That's a real shame, you'd think there'd be a wreck with a box somewhere. I've got two of these diesels.

You could wait for other opinions, in case there is a solution

The 1.6 petrol is a different gearbox.
You will be looking for an A4CF2. In Australia both the 1.6D and 2.0P use this box BUT i cant confirm if the bellhousing pattern and protusion will be the same.
