I've been driving my new active x for a few months now and I find the new car smell or chemical type smell very over powering. I initially thought it was the leather seats but now I'm thinking it might be coming in from the air vents? Anyone else notice this in there i30 active x?

Is it worse on warm days? I can't imagine it being really hot in NSW at this time of the year.

Do you have a dash mat in your car? These seem to generally reduce the mist from the dash plastic getting on the screen. You would think this might also reduce the plastic chemicals getting into the air inside the car.

I have a 1 year old i30 and it still has the distinctive new car smell.

Ours still smells newish,  but not over powering.  More in summer with heat build up.
Got our dash mat from "custom carpets " on ebay,  it covers ALL of the dash & has a cut away section for passengers airbag, brilliant.

Our Santa Fe had a really strong plastic smell for the first couple of weeks, was coming from the vents.

Has since settled and is fine.

How far have you driven your GD?

Very little new car smell in my new PD. Maybe because it's pretty cool here since we got it. My sense of smell is a bit shot, but wifey says the same...

Very little new car smell in my new PD.

Hope it hasn't had the ' in-transit wash'.   :whistler:

I was in a certain facility last week where a bunch of new i30s with only 5km on the clock were auctioned off. They still had plastic on roof , bonnet and seats. Also a high tide mark part way up the door linings. Having been 'storm affected' they could not be registered in Australia, but could be sold and registered in a nearby island country.

No GD.  Relax, You're safe mate

And yes, NZ will be hosting these immaculate new cars.
They will probably be ok. Any car that has water entering at sill level, even if it goes no higher ,becomes a Stat write off here.
