I recently got a 2011 i30 which is great except the stereo constantly has the AUX turned on and then randomly cuts in over the radio to say connected. Just a bit annoying. Does anyone know how to turn it off?

Welcome Jenny. Never heard of that problem on here before. Is there anything plugged into it?

No. That's what I thought but unless there is somewhere else to plug something in than in the jack next to the USB in the arm rest then no.

I think the first thing I'd try is to remove/disconnect the harness from the remote ports in the console armrest.

The assembly slides in and snaps into position. I can't remember but you may be able to pull on the lid and carefully pry it up enough to get the harness off. Its tight , the mat lifts , you may get some  fingers up there, or the end cover off the console comes out, 4 screws I think, some may be under the lid. You'd attack that from the rear seat or the way the manual says, remove the console or all the mountings so you could lift it to get in there.

When you insert a plug it auto selects AUX so they do  have a tendancy to break away from the circuit board, so I'm thinking something is  broken or loose and it's shorting out to trigger the AUX select.

I've repaired both of mine with bad audio connection on the AUX to find the socket breaking free, cracked solder joints.

Following on from tw's advice, here's how you might test for it:

Use something non-metallic the shape, size and thickness of a USB connector, perhaps an icecream stick, and slot it in place, then with your stereo on, gently press-test slightly different angles to see if you can get it to switch off USB and onto radio or CD instead. If it doesn't, it's inconclusive, but if it does, it's precisely what tw is saying.

Just make sure there isn't an ice cream on the stick at the time...

It's QLD, Dazz, the icecream will be long gone before it makes it out of the house.

Except I think we're talking about the 3.5mm jack. Another thought I had was potentially bad clock spring but then I'd expect it to be randomly cycling through other  options

Oops. If it's the 3.5mm socket then the 'I am empty' pair of contacts pushed apart by the insertion of the plug are probably loose and saying 'I am full'. Pulling the panel away and resetting the contacts by bending with fine nosed pliers may be all that's needed.

Well, maybe micro pliers. You've had a look, Gerard. Is it a solid surface mount block or an open panel mount arrangement?

Hi there all. Thanks so much for all your responses. It is most probably a loose connection as stated and has been solved by inserting a 3.5 into the hole. It now does not flip up occasionally as it has a constant connection. No longer a problem even if not actually solved!

Thanks for getting back to us, you'd be surprised how many don't. Good to hear you stopped the problem.
