And smashes it convincingly, not just by a little. Times in manual cars are more dependant on the drivers than anything, I would like to see the DCT times when it becomes available.

Times in manual cars are more dependant on the drivers than anything, I would like to see the DCT times when it becomes available.
If both drivers are competent then not so much of an issue, the real difference would be in the power to weight.

Every single motoring jurno thinks of themselves as the most competent on the planet... You are right though insofar as the difference in the favour of the N is so big that even bodged starts wouldn't get the GTI to win.

I know that if it was promised to be available in DCT (so Mrs Hati can drive it too) off the bat, I would have waited and bought the N. Happily.
