- my Orient watch seems to start falling apart - two maintenance shop visits within a month

Any ideas of a possible replacements, lads?)  (I own Casio Edifice too; need a mechanical watch with sapphire glass and automatic winding)

So you wont get one of those watches from a $2 shop then?

I've never had any problems with my Longines or Tissot automatics :goodjob2: My Longines watch also uses Hesalite crystal rather than sapphire as it lighter - stronger and will outlast the others :)

I bought a new watch just a month or so ago....

Seiko Sapphire Titanium

I've had a few Seikos over the years and have found them pretty reliable.  :goodjob:

I like Seiko too which is what I have tended to buy in the past, since I was a kid, in fact.
Now I wear a nice shiny one (not Seiko) that records video for me.   :D

I've still got an early custom made Adina Oceaneer that was given to me by my parents for my 21st, it still runs though sits in the draw now days slowly increasing in value :)

I also have the first Citizen Eco Drive World Time model, still runs great and only gets worn when I go overseas or for work as its up to all challenges.

Then there is the two Patek fakes I got a couple of years ago mentioned here previously on the forum, both use Miyolta Citizen 21 jewel automatic movements and get worn on my day to day travels.

I've got the Tissot Heritage visodate automatic (pictured below), that one mostly sits in it's display case for dressy occasions.

And last of all I have my Longines Classic automatic (pictured below), which I'll wear to informal occasions.

Had a custom gold Seiko automatic with pearl inlaid face made for me 20 years ago but that one got stolen, thankfully it was insured :sweating:

Also had two others that I fell out of love with, gave the Hugo Boss to my father and a Tissot to my brother.

Gee you guys spend more on watches than I do on cars!

Mind you, how many of you have a spare smartwatch? ....

I doubt I will ever use it again but I still have my Pebble smartwatch in the draw. I now use my Moto 360 smart watch.

I've got a  couple of reasonable Citizen watches but I won 1 of them and inherited the other...

I once had a watch, when I was 7 years old, then the battery ran out and I never had another one since.
That's why I don't buy battery watches :D the quality and workmanship is in Swiss automatics and I never leave home without one, I think some of my watches are older than you are :snigger:

Not sure if its good or not, but I got 54.71l of Diesel into the 53l tank, first click, no brimming shenenigans. Tomorrow its time for service again.

I once had a watch, when I was 7 years old, then the battery ran out and I never had another one since. Yet I somehow still manage to keep better track of time than my watch wielding friends. I do get the entire jewelry thing, I just never was one for adornments. :P

Wierd you got that much in on first click! What has Mom got to do with anything (on your receipt)

and... How in the hell do you survive without a watch! I understand there are  plenty of clocks around, but even though I'm now retired I'm a stickler for punctuality. I'm always checking the time... "Sh*t, the kids will be here shortly, I better get my skates on....."

I too am a stickler for punctuality, even now I'm retired.
And I've had more than a few watches over the years. But I rarely wear one now.

I have 4.
Top of the list would be my Omega Deville which came from Goodyear after 25 years service. I know it's worth a bit (bot Breittling "worth", but more than I'd ever spend on a watch). I've had it since 2000 and it only came up for a battery about 4 years ago. I normally replace my own but took it to a watch specialist. Cost me $34. "Well, it's not just your run of the mill Seiko", he said when I queried it. Battery lasted 14 months so I took it to a local Mom and Pop shop. Pop is a barber (old style). Mom does cheapie jewellery and watch batteries. $11 and it's still going strong.  :crazy1:

I have a Seiko Premier Chronograph. My daughter used to be Marketing Manager at Seiko in the Sydney national office. She bought it new at staff discount but it's really too big for her wrist. So she gave it to me.

I have a Seiko Sports 100 which was my grandfathers. He passed away in 1985. It takes a battery every 3 years or so. I wore it in the surf for years but I just use it now if I go for a walk or a ride.

My surf watch is a Casio digital (the others are all analogue). It has a 10 year battery life and I had a Casio before (which came off in a heavy wipeout) which was also very light on batteries. Cost about $80 IIRC. It's 3 years old now.

+ thank you, lads, for your comments about watches  :), I have got a vast choice to think about
+ got my Orient from the maintenance
- not mentally ready to spend more than 500USD for a watch (so Citizen EcoDrive looks a better choice)

My wife has one older than our combined age, good watches seem to outlive their owners by a hefty margin.

Depends what you call a watch, Russell. My wife just picked up the latest model Fitbit which tells time among many other things.

Bit like my Moto 360, being a bit hard of hearing the watch vibrating on my wrist is a good phone call alert when I am riding the mower with ear muffs on, or in other noisy environments. The step tracker is also handy + a couple of other features too...  :victory:

That's better way than what I found out about my previous motorbike. Back in 2005 I had just bought my new Kawa and was cruising around. I noticed the low fuel warning in the dash, but did the math in my head that I have enough fuel to continue. However, after a while the bike suddenly started to cough and died a moment later, and it was easy to guess what's going on. Luckily I was only 1 km away from a gas station, but you can believe I was sweaty as h**l after pushing the 200kg bike over an uphill, wearing all those Gore-tex clothes. Then I managed to put only 15,9 liters to the tank which was supposed to be 18 liters!  :Pout: So my math in the head wasn't actually wrong, but the tank was 2 liters smaller.

Speaking about watches... I got my first watch when I was about 5 years old, and being the golden 1980s it was a digital one, and I was hooked for life about them. I got some new ones when the previous got broken. Then came nineties and digital watches went out of fashion, but I kept mine. Then came the millennium and watches in general went out of fashion because "hey, but the mobile phone has a watch!" but I didn't buy that excuse and kept my stubborn head.

The last 10 years my choice have been a classic Casio A158WA, and I have few more of them in my drawer so I will not run out of them for the rest of my life. So you could really say digital watches being my thing. To top it all the unusual, because I'm left handed, I wear it in my right hand!  Even my alarm clock is a digital Casio (again, no excuse of mobile phone having an alarm clock).
