I don't need a watch because I have a big clock.

It's a grandfather clock.
They don't come much bigger.

Neither have I but it's known world wide as a huge clock.

I read an article about why people still buy expensive and inaccurate analogue watches -

:link: Still ticking: The improbable survival of the luxury watch business | Simon Garfield | Life and style | The Guardian

The only acceptable jewellery for men? Vanity? the desire to impress others?  Make your own mind up.

I own a 15 year old quartz Seiko  and a newer quartz Rotary, the Rotary is accurate to a second a fortnight. That'll do me. :)

My Moto 360 smart watch that I got last October for my Birthday has already had one warranty repair for a cracked back ( known fault) and it has started cracking again. It still works and I like most of its features.  Anyway, I decided I wanted something to monitor my sleep (or lack of it) so I just went halves WITH Trish in a Garmin Vivoactive at a clearance price  ($249) for my upcoming 60th. Pretty good price, I'm wearing both at the moment, one on each arm. Only wearing the Garmin to bed + 'jarmies LOL

I remember someone many years ago asking the CEO of Rolex how the time business was going.
He replied, "I don't know. I'm not in the time business. I'm in the luxury business. If you want to know the time, buy a Timex."

To get a watch as a birthday gift is deemed a bad omen here, so a coin must be given in turn (the same works with knife).

First I wanted my girlfriend to get me Citizen as a present of the forthcoming birthday, but changed it to a coffeemachine :)
(my previous one stays in my mother's home, so have only capsule coffeemaker along with moka and Turk)

It's ok Misha, I paid, Trish just gave me some money towards it. Anyway, I'll  refer to it from now on as a fitness band that tells the time. :D

Came across this old Swiss made Omega pocket watch in my drawer the other day...it belonged to my stepfather (or possibly his father) and I'd forgotten all about it...  :undecided:
As you can see it's in very poor condition.

It does have the sellers name on the face (S. Weisser) who, from doing a bit of research, operated a watchmaker/jewellery business in Korumburra in the early 1900's.

So it's Analog, but essentially acts like a smartwatch? Which actual model did you get?
