I have a similar problem with a 2011 Hyundai i30 Diesel. The "judder" has been occurring when starting off and is more pronounced when it is on a slope. More recently the Engine Management Computer light has come on at which point I took it to the local dealership here in Hobart Tasmania. I have only had a telephone conversation but the message was basically that the transmission needs to be replaced at a cost of $5K AUD. The vehicle has run out of warranty but only has 55000 km on the clock. I'd be interested in any others who have experienced similar problems. Motors (the dealership) seemed very vague about what the problem is or what caused it mentioning something about the EMC system reporting overheating but not being able to say what caused it. I'll go back to them and request a more detailed printed report before taking it to an independent mechanic and to Hyundai. If there is a problems as people here seem to be suggesting then Hyundai need to accept some liability I would have thought.

Welcome Mike. Doesn't sound much like Motors are going to go in to bat for you. The stars really need to align to get a warranty repair outside the warranty period. You are doing the right thing though getting a 2nd opinion and talking to Hyundai.

Do some googling and asking around about Transmission specialists in Hobart as I'm sure you can get it done for way less than $5K if you shop around (and Motors/Hyundai don't come to the party.

Fingers crossed for you.

Hi Mike F,
Bummer, only 55k km on a 2011 model. That is SFA per year.
Did you ever mention this fault before at service ?
I would ask dealer to confirm fault and repair process in writing.
Also get a second and / or third opinions in writing.
Start dealing with HY AUST.

Thanks MikeD and Dazzler - I agree with your suggestions and am reassured that taking it up further is not unreasonable.
