Was washing my new generation i30 today for first time and wanted to raise the front wipers to allow me to wash the windscreen properly, as I normally do with every other car I’ve owned however the wiper arm starts to rub heavily off the edge of the bonnet of the car when trying to raise them. Not a huge issue when only washing the car I suppose however may make changing the blades a little more tricky. Anyone else noticed this yet?

The answer is in your owner's handbook.
There's a process to follow.

It's been discussed here a few times. Just can't locate them ATM.
But @Dazzler  knows how to do it.
I seem to remember someone saying the manual was a bit confusing but Dazz cleared it up.

Sometimes it works. Sometimes it doesn't. That's how it is for me. Somehow, the sequence and the timing can affect how it works. It's frustrating that I completely leave the wipers down when washing the car. And just lightly lift it to clean that area.

Apparently it is to discourage theft and I suspect low mounting helps aerodynamics and wind noise.

Usually I'm happy to just lift them gently and wipe the blades and the glass under.

If you first turn off ignition, then within seconds push the wiper stalk to the single wipe position, it will move to the centre EVERY time ;)

Yes, I do that. I realised that you can't do it from cold. Meaning that the car engine must be started and then turned off, followed by the push to single wipe position.

Perhaps someone can do a video of how it's done. I've seen YouTube videos of similar procedure with Audi cars. They also have the same wiper design (because of ex-Audi designers with Hyundai) as the new i30. The only difference is that single wipe is push down instead of up.

Haha! I wish I can, but I'm not good at making 'how-to' videos. One day, I may try.
