Title: Write here your review of new shocks - if you have changed shocks in i30 gd
Post by: chris_i30gd on March 25, 2017, 15:20:21
Dear members of the forum.

Please  write here your review,  if you have changed the shocks in your i30 gd so we can have
an idea about the feel of new shocks in the car. Please also write the type of the new shocks (sachs - bilstein etc).

Your review will help all others that want to change their shocks in the future!

We have a Member or two with over 200K on their GD who are still on the original shocks (including @Doggie 1 )

But although I think they have noticed some slight deterioration in ride haven't seen the need to change shocks yet.

@CraigB I thought you had done some suspension work in your 3 door mate?  :undecided:

That's correct, still on originals. I have felt some deterioration but still quite OK.

Only the Eibach springs so far, the matching Bilstein shocks I'll do either later this year or next...now you've reminded me about them I may do them sooner :snigger:

Good video chris_i30gd,
You can see that the correct term should be Spring Rebound Dampener.
The spring compreses and expands as it wishes if the "shock" is dead.

My Challenger will need some soon as she gets a bit skittish on patchy or uneven ground.

Great vid.

Shocks wear progressively and the normal driver won't notice the difference.
Until you need to brake suddenly, swerve violently or even accelerate hard on an uneven surface.

The shock has just one job.

To keep the tyre's contact patch in full contact with the road at all times. If the inbuilt damping isn't working effectively, that won't happen.

I still have a couple of videos somewhere of testing done by Monroe Australia back in the early 80's.

Frightening stuff.

Thank you.

My wife's old car was a peugeot 206.
I changed the shocks of the car at 120.000km
although has a minimum sign that they need change.

I was shocked when I saw the old shocks. They were in bad condition and they were looking like were hitted by a hummer!

I'm at 271,000 km on the stock shocks. Propably should have been changed long time ago, but they're not dead yet...
