I'm in the UK looking to buy my second car, my options have boiled down to either the Ford Focus or the i30 (will probably get a 16/66 reg used rather than new to save a few hundred). I'm 19 and need something comfortable for my 40 mile commute to university and back. What engine has the best balance between good power and low insurance? If there's a larger engine with considerably better mileage/performance with a relatively small insurance cost bump I would be ok with going for a bigger engine.
Also - I'm a little concerned about the sale of my old car - is it taxable? I'm very close to the personal allowance amount which is why I am worrying. I've looked at this "
income tax" website but I can't work it out otherwise. Will I pay tax on the sale of the old car?
