Started a couple of weeks ago and is intermittant. Some days no issues.
Today, I went to car in garage, when it sensed the remote it started unlocking/locking doors by itself, lights flashing and mirror folding unfolding, when I walked away it stopped. ( I had not even touched the keyfob or the unlock button on door handle.)
I can get in when the unlock activates if I am quick.  As soon as I sit and close the door it locks all doors but will start up ok
Driving is no problem.
Parked and turned off engine, all doors unlocked automatically but I could hear a faint tone which stopped when I pressed the inside door lock button, as soon as I pressed the unlock button whilst still sitting in car, the tone started again.
Got out and closed door which immediately started locking/unlocking by itself. Walked away and it stopped but doors were unlocked (mirror not folded). Pressing the keyfob lock or unlock made no difference, eventually it stopped at the lock position.

Changed keyfob batteries in both, so don't think it is that as happens with either keyfob.
Question, should I take to my Hyundai dealer or to local garage?
Car is 2013 130 premium, and out of warranty of course.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Good Morning  young lady  :winker:..

Dazzler at your service.  :D

Don't ask me why I'm chirpy, been up since 4am (bloody insomnia)

Anyway, typical (out of warranty)

I initially suspected an intermittent short in the remote, but obviously not after changing batteries in both!

My suggestion has a fairly good chance of working I reckon (at least 50/50)

Disconnect the negative terminal of the battery for at least 30 minutes.. that should reset the BCM (Body control module)

Can't do any harm..  :Good_luck: :fingers:

Hi Dazzler,
Thanks for your reply.  :)
I only got to bed around 5am, night owl, so just up now and feeding my cats, then brunch for me.

Not sure I have the strength to unscrew the terminal (74 yr young lady !) but will try if I have the right tools. If not, will take to my local garage and ask him to help. Will let you know.

Hi Dazzler, I had a look at the battery and was expecting to see a large nut to unscrew, the size of charger cable terminals. All I could see was a very small less than 1cm nut and was a bit inaccessible to reach.

I think I will see if my local garage can disconnect it for me, if he is there tomorrow. He installed the new battery which I bought from him last year.

Pity you live in Tassie, too far to come.
Lovely place to live though, I visited some years back, reminded me a bit of England weather wise. I'm originally from Leeds (10 pound pom).

Have a good day and hope you can get some sleep tonight

Cheers, yes it is an awesome place to live fortunately. Seeing as we are pretty much stuck here until maybe Christmas.

Normally do 10,000 + kilometres a year on the mainland.  Hopefully we can again next year.

I would have been happy enough to sort it for you if I was up there. Can't think of a lot of active Sydney members that might be my proxy. Not sure how far away Neville @i30premy lives... I doubt your local mechanic would even charge you to do that then tighten it up again after you've been for a cuppa. Hope it works, otherwise he might have some ideas.

Hi Dazz,
Car decided to behave itself today, nevertheless took it to garage and we disconnected the negative battery terminal. Was held by a clamp with 2 screw nuts so only needed to unscrew one. Reconnected after 3/4 hr and will now see how it goes over next few days.
Will post updates.
:fingers: hoping it works. If not, gave me contact number for auto electrician that dealers go to when they need help.
Hope you are now getting your beauty sleep ok?

Thanks for the update. All sounds positive. Ironically my Big brother Richard started an auto electrical busines in Sydney Suburb Artarmon, which one of his stepsos took over when he retired and moved north to Kingscliff. Unfortunately, Grant has now sold the business and moved north as well. Hopefully you won't need an auto electrician and you might not be anywhere near Artarmon anyway. If you do and you don't get good vibes from the one you have been given details of, pm me and I'll see if Richard or Grant have still got any good contacts in your part of Sydney. Take care.

As far as my beaty sleep is concerned.. third bad night in a row unfortunately although I kept off the net. I won't ever use sleeping tablets but might try a couple of herbal remidies that have been recommended to me by other PD sufferers.   :goodjob:

Hi Dazzler,

Just a quick update. Car has been mostly behaving, just a couple of times played up but not as bad as before.
I just had to shell out $1600 for my cat at the specialist vet hospital so money a bit tight.

Will monitor the situation as it's not so urgent at present.
I just got all 3 wipers replaced by local garage for $75. May be a lot ? but convenient as he is just in the next street to me.

Hope you have managed to get some sleep, or try some cat naps during the day if possible perhaps. now off to bed myself

Glad to hear it's a bit better $75 is not too bad if was the whole wiper arm not just the rubber blades.

Actually I saw my PD specialist yesterday and he suggested taking a PD (Stalevo) tablet in the middle of the night and it worked a treat. Got an extra 3 hours sleep. Actually bounced out of bed walking normally. Usually have to slide out and hobble for first hour or so. Even my vision was great from the get go..  :happydance:

I'd actually thought a tablet would hype me up more but apparently not..

last question first. No! Any good mechanic should come to this conclusion. If nothing happens until you are close, it has to be the fob transmitting to the car; not the other way round.

The fob buttons are probably dirty or worn and they are jammed on.

Gary makes some good points. Credit where credit is due. Now i think it is unlikely that both remotes would have this issue though.

When you tested the spare remote did you make sure the other remote was well out of broadcast range? If it was in your handbag or elsewhere but still within a few metres of the car it might have still been doing it's business while you were testing the spare! It kind of put me off the scent when you said both remotes did the same thing. Food for thought.

What if you have both Key fobs in your hand bag? As you know Dazz, it only takes one to transmit and all your sequins are quivering .

Hi guys,

I only take one fob with me, other stays at home. When swapping I only had the one fob with me.
Fobs are in good condition as I never use them to open close door., they stay in my bag. I only use the button on the car door.

Car behaved ok again today. I give up..   :crazy2:

Glad you got some much needed sleep Dazz

Not sure about the wiper arms, it was raining and I was inside the car not paying too much attention.  :head_knock:
He removed the wiper arms, and I did see him threading new rubbers onto wiper arms but not sure if the same arms or new ones. Will have to check if wiper arms look new. His invoice states '3 wipers, supply and fit'

Time for dinner now, first my furry brood and then myself. Have to get priorities correct.

Cheers, extra sleep seemed to help a bit today although i'm starting to get quite a bit of involuntary  movement as the meds wear off (a bit embarrassing at times)

If he did it in the rain I think we'll give him the benefit of the doubt.  :goodjob:

I now realise that "key fob" is actually referring to a Keyless entry fob.  :faint:

It's all good mate. I'm happy if you are. It is a tricky one. I thought you might have been onto something and despite most of my comments being rubbish and fillers  :snigger: I do come up with the odd pearl of wisdom..  :P  :snigger:

Thinking keyless  start ( now)  my guess is that something was not shut down properly. Door or hatch not latched properly ???? and car still waiting to be turned off .

The Highlander took 15 minutes for all functions to close down. I actually lost a battery ( Century as usual  :crazy1:) due to extended current drain.

Cheers Mate, Nice lateral thinking and certainly another avenue of investigation for our valued member to follow if the need arises.  :goodjob:

Good thought but....
Car was definitely turned off as all doors were locked, mirrors folded. Car will only lock if all doors are fully closed or I get a high pitched sound from the car telling me that a door is open. Same sound if I leave the car running and get out with the keyfob in my bag, doesn't like that.
It now seems to be behaving itself so crossing fingers the battery disconnection did the trick. Thanks Dazz
I know I can always count on help from you guys. Off to sleep now zzzzzzzzzzzzz
