roof bar fitting

I have  a very specific question about the fitting of genuine Hyundai roof bars on my uk i30 (2011)

As you are securing each bars on the roof it appears that you tighten the fitting metal bolt fully then rotate it anti-clockwise by 720 degrees.

Then you then tighten using the plastic nut. However  it is not clear is whether you hold the metal bolt in position (maintaining the 720 degree rotation of the bolt) as you are tightening the nut, or let the metal bolt tighten/rotate further as you rotate the plastic nut.

I hope this makes sense!

Are you able to clarify? Thanks..

I  tried to attach a picture of the instructions in a PDF file but it was too large!  I may be able to post a link to the photo if it helps..

Definitely try and get a picture up. Photobucket or imgur work.

From your description I imagine the bolt should stay still while you complete the tightening but I would need to see the part and instructions to fully understand what your doing.

Ahh I'm good now.

When you turn the bolt back 720 it is to allow room for it to tighten some with the nut.
My first assumption was wrong. Just do the nut up as required without holding the bolt.

Thanks, that makes sense.

Presumably therefore, prior to this step when you are rotating the bolt the 720 degrees anti-clockwise, you are keeping the plastic nut still and not rotating it with the bolt?

Pretty sure it wont matter what the nut does while setting the bolt up.

The way i see it is wind the nut right onto the bolt, screw bolt into roof until it stops then back 1.5 turns then tighten nut down. (i would hold bolt to stop it from rotating until the nut touches the mount then let it go)

A picture of the actual bolt nut and mount setup would help too.

I thought it was 2 turns, not 1.5?

Attached is a photo of nut and bolt installed(completed without holding the bolt whilst turning the nut..it turned a bit with iT (correct link now added)
