Took the opportunity to do a short raod trip to Cowra recently. Have been there a number of years ago & thought it time to re-visit.

Naturally as we went through Bathurst, a short detour to the track was in order...

Pole position was free so we grabbed it!!

Top of the mountain a bit quieter after the big race

The Japanese Gardens were in top condition as usual

The site of the POW camp & Cowra breakout has been upgraded a lot

Dropped into the Australia Hotel for dinner & natually the locals wanted to know all about us - the chap on left actually grows some of the bonsai for the gardens.

We went through Bathurst with the kids sometime in the late 1990s. Did four laps of the track, first with me who'd done it before, then with each of the kids driving. At the speed limit of course.
For anyone who's ever watched the cars cresting Skyline at race speeds (220kph!!!!), going over it at just 60kph is terrifying enough. Absolutely blind approach with nothing but the Bathurst countryside in vision, way in the distance.

Was very tempted to hit the accelerator a bit harder.

Even @ 50-60 a couple of spots nearly got me into trouble.   :crazy1:
Very tight corner coming down "The Dipper" & the left hander on the Chase is very deceiving.

We did it in an XY Falcon wagon towing a caravan back in the 80's ~ that was interesting!!

Looking east from lookout behind township

Had a personalised tour of Cowra railway station - line has been closed for years but must have been very busy back then.

Very impressive rose garden @ visitors centre

Took a short excursion to Grenfell, Henry Lawson's birthplace.

On a personalised tour of Chrysler Museum Grenfell

Ben Hall's (bushranger) cave west of Grenfell

Also on the weekend we were there was a fly in but a number of restored warbirds.

Thanks again Neville, just about finished a 2 week loop of eastern victoria. You may have seen a few shots on Facebook.  Intend posting a few pictures on here when I get home.

@Surferdude Did 2 laps of Bathurst a couple of years ago in a boring old Camry  (not even a hybrid )

Worst thing was half the track had a 40 kph limit due to signage work and there was a policewoman parked at the top of skyline taking in the view.  :crazy1:

thanks for posting!
the area looking good. I have an old friend with a property up in hill's around 35 k before orange. the area had been in drought , then a few months ago they had good rain & from your pic's good to see it at it's best!!
like yourself and Trev I've driven around mount panorama and I took a friend from Tennessee around there about twelve years back . amazed him. when you see the track today it's in top condition top race surface tarmac. first time I went there as a young bloke and drove around it I could not imagine traveling at the speeds they hit in those old cars at that time ( it looked a bit rough ).
I must have gone past that Australia hotel fifty times or more over the years but never had time to stop, I've even gone past on Australia Day. so nice to see a shot from the inside. :goodjob2:
thanks!!
forgot to ask, did you visit the museum at the track?
