Hi all
Now, let me just explain!
I no longer have my i30 as I was offered too much to turn down, I now have a Kia Cee'd, but I'm here to help ............ honest!
My Cee'd is a 2011 model with the same CRDi 1.6 diesel lump that was in my i30.
Great engine, but underpowered .................. it's the 89bhp version.
Although it regularly returned around 50mpg it was really rather slow.
I got it professionally re-mapped, as I think you guys could with the i30 CRDi vehicles.
Long story short;
It went from 89bhp to 137bhp, an increase of 48bhp ................... over 50%!
Torque went from 173lb/ft to 212lb/ft, an increase of 39lb/ft ........ over 20%.
It's a totally different car that now gets me around 55mpg! I recently did a long journey and it returned 66.8mpg!!!
It's much quicker, pulls stronger and uses less fuel, what's not to love?
Just thought I'd mention this in case any of you guys were thinking of upgrading your i30.
I hope this helps,

Slime.

Glad to hear the improved returns but.......

Does the remap alter your insurance costs?

Can you scan and post here the dyno graphs the professional tuner gave you - it would be interesting to see the power and torque figures at various revs.  It is rare for a car to gain such substantial economy with such a large power and torque increase and it would be great to analyse how they achieved it.

By the way - how are you measuring the economy - is it brim to brim over several tanks or the economy displayed by the trip recorder. The trip recorders on my i30's were never accurate and averaged between 3.3% and 9.5% optimistic

I have owned three 1.6 diesel i30s between 2009 and 2014 - all from new - and they averaged between 49 and 54 mpg over a total of almost 33000 miles of 50/50 mixed motorway and urban traffic.

Sep. 2009 i30 1.6 113 bhp diesel hatchback : 14116 miles used 286 gallons fuel = 49.4 mpg. Highest miles on a tank 569

Apr. 2012 i30 1.6 126 bhp diesel hatchback : 11921 miles used 221 galllons fuel = 53.9 mpg. Highest miles on a tank 752

May 2013 i30 1.6 126 bhp diesel tourer       : 6853 miles used 131 gallons fuel   = 52.3 mpg. Highest miles on a tank 705

Those calculations don't seem correct, with only 39lb/ft = 52N m increase it would be impossible to gain 48hp.

As you can see with the RaceChip GTS :link: Kia Cee'd (ED) 1.6 CRDi performance tuning | Racechip even with 52lb/ft = 71N m torque gain it's only 27hp increase.

It was done via a mate of mine by a guy who does this professionally and it was done in his spare time.
I have no dyno graphs, unfortunately, but the difference in performance was obvious from the moment I drove away.
He did give me a print-out with final bhp and torque figures and those are the figures quoted in my original post.

Fuel consumption was based on one motorway journey with a fill up at either end of the journey, about ¾ of a tank.
I know this isn't bang on accurate, but I'm sure it's reasonably indicative.
I'm soon to be doing a few hundred miles in a few days, I'll do more accurate sums then by doing a brim to brim from the same fuel pump before setting off and upon my return.

I'm sorry Craig, those are the figures I was given.
The car certainly pulls much stronger and accelerates much quicker.
I'll re-check my figures if I can find the print-out, but I'm sure they're correct.
