Hi. New Hyundai owner.

I've recently bought a 2018 i30 1.6 CRDI DCT Premium tourer with 37 miles. It was bought from a car supermarket and unfortunately has some issues..

Main concern is a rattly creaking noise from front nearside which only occurs when turning right. It's fine on the straight/ turning left. No obvious damage to suspension/ CV joints from visual inspection.

Sat nav doesn't work. Error message stating problem with SD card ( see attached pic). Supermarket is sending me a new sd card ( fingers crossed it will solve the problem!)

Finally, really rattly dashboard. Aware of problems with outside windscreen trim but noise seems to come from speaker areas on top of the dash.

Has anybody had similar issues or remedies?

Hello and welcome to the forum. Sorry to hear of your woes, @mrp
Let's hope the new SD card at least solves one of your concerns.

Do you think there has been some work done around the windscreen and dash?
If so, it may have been a hasty job putting it together again. Hopefully some PD owners will provide some insights soon.

I wouldn't classify those faults as lemon-esque   we've have real lemons reported here, with far worse citric issues

The replacement SD card may sort your nav problem; while you're waiting for it to arrive try putting it into a Windows PC/laptop and do a drive scan on it.

Alternatively, reformat it and have a look at New UK/EU Map Updates (D.I.Y) - i30-i30N to get the latest firmware & maps to see if that helps.

The shakes, rattles and rolls are never easy to take on the chin but as mentioned above there may have been some significant movement in the dash area which requires a revisit and a retighten.

Mileage should be 37k not 37 miles!

Getting it booked in at the garage soon. I'll update on here and let people know any resolution to the problems in case anyone else has same issues.

Update...

Shambles ..thank you for your advice on updating the satnav. I bought a cheap SD card and followed your link. I'm very pleased to say the sat nav is now up and running ! 👍

Took the car to my local garage to look at the rattly suspension/ drive shaft/ CV joint/ bearing ??. Took the mechanic for a quick drive after they couldn't find the fault. He confirmed he could hear the fault still. They prodded and poked around some more and couldn't find anything wrong. It's booked in at a main dealer in a few weeks to have a look.

I think a lot of of the creaking and cracking dashboard maybe be due to the trim on the outside of the windscreen. I've read somewhere if you take it off, pad it out and reattach this may cure some of the creaking and cracking🤞.

The way to know if its that if it happens predominantly when its cold outside and warm in the car. I had to fix that on my 2019 car when it was about 4 or 5 months old. I think I posted how to do it - if not I can explain sometime or there will be some posts out their on the internet.

Oh there was another rattle that sounded like it came from the dash but it was a cable rattling in the headlining just to the side of the interior lights above your head.  you can tell its that if when you hear it if you push up on the headlining it stops. Bit of tape and foam applied through the hole the lights are in fixed that.

Can anyone tell me how to change the sat nav speed from kmh to mph ?

The display between the dials is mph but the speed rating on sat nav is kmh (please see attached pics). I can't find anywhere in the settings to change it.

I just went and checked my settings - as I assumed, there's nothing in there to change from km/h to mph.

Double check you downloaded the correct software for your update (Compact Gen5 Nav, maybe?)

They have an open chat feature on the website during office hours - you may get some guidance there. I checked their FAQs and nothing shows up.

Update on my lemon.

Car has been to the main dealers. They have confirmed the nearside suspension top mount is faulty and making the noise. They are going to replace it under warranty but Hyundai are out of stock of the part at the moment so will have to wait till its back in stock. Maybe they are out of stock as its a common fault/design flaw ??

Whilst I was there I ordered a new key fob as the car supermarket I bought the car from lost my spare when the car was delivered. New key + blade programmed to the car cost £540 !!! The car supermarket are paying not me !

I managed to find a setting in the menus to change the sat nav from reading km/h to mp/h under SAT NAV/ GUIDANCE/ DETAILED GUIDANCE /DISTANCE UNIT.

The rattling dash has healed itself !! A tic tac sweet fell out of the nearside dash. God only knows how it got there ! May of originally come from the glovebox.

I still get some creaking and cracking from the dash near the windscreen and believe it is the problem that Lorian has previously mentioned in this thread about the outside windscreen trim. A job to look at in the Spring.

Changing the nearside top mount didn't fix the rattle. It turned out to be a gearbox mount bushing that was rubbing as you turn right!

Good on the mechanic finding the fault and ' modifying' the mount. Think he cut a bit off to fix it. 👍
