Title: GD Series Park light globe change
Post by: pidim on May 15, 2019, 03:37:40
I need some help.  How can I remove the park light on the GD series. I have taken the cap off where the high beam is, removed it out of the way but I cannot tell how to change the tiny park light next to it. Is it a pull out, twist and pull, pray to the gods or something like that? :)

Thank you

Hi Mikd, no just same for same replacement.  I just don't know how to remove the tiny globe from the rear which is placed right next to the high beam globe. You twist the cap off and you can see the cables and housing for both.

Just twist and pull...they’re a push in bulb and quite a tight fitting the first time cracked.

It's just so tight to get in there and do that.  Do I push in first, twist and pull out?  Or just twist and pull it?  I don't want to break anything but have no idea how to get in there to do that as well. I'm a bit of newb with this stuff

Well the drivers side should have enough room to get some pliers on to it, passenger side is a little more confined I think though I still manage to reach in there with thumb and forefinger.

I can pull them straight out easily now but the first time a twist (either way) and pull straight out.

thank you for that.  I can never understand why something so basic has to be so hard to do on so many brands of cars these days.

I must admit i was a lot easier to access and change globes in the headlights of my new PD than it was to change them in Trish's GD tourer.  :crazy2:

To be honest, I usually pull the whole light out when doing the left side. Not enough room to get my meaty mitt in there.

Its a job for a very dainty chap

I can pull them straight out easily now

Hi folks, just circling back on this topic.  I have asked a couple of mates to see whether they could remove this park light bulb and no luck from both of them.

Yesterday I took the car in to a local mechanic for a pink slip before rego.  After his light checking routine he picked up the bulb was out.  He tried everything he could to remove it for almost 30mins - trying to remove by hand, using tools. It just does not budge. He just gave up and gave me my pink slip, in the end.

What a joke this is.  I now have to book it in to a Hyundai dealer with the hope they know what to do.  I would not want to risk it with some independent that will not know how potentially difficult this is.  Let's hope they don't put some inexperienced kid on to this and damages something attempting to change the bulb.  I can't believe I have to go through this just for a park light.

@pidim That's crazy. How frustrating. Can't say I've heard of that before. Good luck with the dealer.  :undecided:

Something is not right, they are tight but not so tight I couldn’t remove by hand and I’ve popped em out on a few of the family and friends i30’s and Elantras.
