are the rest of the doors locked as well? Press the button on your remote... Sorry mate, I don't know - the child lock could be on but broken? I don't know how the child locks work (mechanically), but I did check the other day to confirm the i30 has them.

Try disconecting the battery for 30 minutes to see if it resets the ECU

Damn rear left door of mine has suddenly stuck shut now also It's going to have to stay like that until it gets it service in a month or so

take it to the dealer to fix,you wont get it open without possibly damaging something. that's what your 5 year warranty is there for. IMO.    oh,and welcome to our great club.

I have heard mention of squirting a bit of WD40 or CRC into the lock if you can get at it.. but it is a component failure needing dealer attention. One of the more common ones but many never have a problem..

I take it this is when you are trying to open from the outside?

If not and it is when you are trying to open from the inside then the child lock is on.  Need to open from outside and alter the child lock settings.

Thanks for feedback. I think it is off to the dealer, which is a pain in the neck to arrange as I now work km's away from a Hyundai dealer. The door will not open from the inside or outside. The inside latch flickers in response to the central locking but doesn't fully open. It appears to be jammed at lock with no access to fix. Apart from that, the car works fine.

I think the offending part is called an Actuator (a type of electric Solenoid) that locks and unlocks the doors.. My rear hatch refused to open a couple of times on my previous CRDi but as it was intermittent fault I never got around to taking it to the dealer.. Several of our members have had that part replaced but I don't have any other details sorry.

I spoke with a Hyundai service person who seemed to know what he was doing. He was convinced that it the actuator(?) as per prior posting. I got the impression that he had seen the problem before. There is no other fix than taking it back to the dealer (unless you really know what you are doing).

with the door closed ?

Good question Paul. I have no idea how they will access the lock with the door closed shut. That is why I am getting it fixed under the warranty. If I tried I would no doubt stuff up inside of the door.

Problem fixed. It required a new part and was repaired under warranty - no issues there. It did actually start to work again but only in cool weather. As soon as it got above about 20C it just locked shut. Early in the morning and at night it worked! This made the repair easy as they weren't quite sure how they were going to break into the locked door to replace the accuator(?) but I brought the car in early in the morning and told them they had until the temp reached 20C to fix the door with ease.

It seems to be one of the very few common faults on the Korean built i30..

Mazdas used to be very bad for electric window problems and I believe that Nissan Tiidas had a problem with their electric windows too but "touch wood" the i30 seems good in that department
