Title: Window switch malfunction
Post by: robur on September 29, 2020, 20:40:27
Hi there,
I got an interesting problem on my i30 FD 2009 concerning front windows switch. Basically the situation here is:
- Driver window works normally,
- Passenger window from panel on passenger door works normally,
- Passenger window from panel on driver door would only go down  :'( to put it up I have to do it from passenger side, it won't go up from the drivers panel

With those symptoms I figured that all the mechanical part shall be fine and narrowed the problem to the drivers' side window steering panel. I disassembled electronic to the smallest parts and indeed, the switch on the right (bottom on the pic) is the trouble maker. Inside each element there are two button, the one for the window going up does not make a contact when pushed normally. Only when pushed hard it would close the circuit, but that's not doable with the plastic buttons that go on top.

Question now, I would normally order the whole driver side window panel but I do not see any being sold for the version with two electric windows. All parts on market are for 4 windows. The part no. is 'FD UNIT 374492'. Is there any option a panel from other model Hyundai/Kia could be found and fit?
My alternative idea is to eventually buy 4 button version and just transplant it to my part if that might work...

Can you share your thoughts?
cheers

Thanks, saw that one but it is also unavailable. Also it would increase car value by 5%  :D

Hey there, solved the problem!

I have bought window switch for the rear window hoping to transplant it to my driver window switch unit. The built of the button was different of course so it wouldn't fit in the drivers panel :crazy1:

Well in that case had to do it a round way. Rear switch unit though has the same plug as the front passenger unit, plugged it there and it works just fine.
Passenger window switch has the same button (almost) as the drivers, great donor! I took out a switch from passenger unit to the drivers. Had to bridge two pins so that it behaves the same as drivers side switch.

Everything works fine! Now just need to play along with rear unit mount. Plug's same but mounting holes different to make your life easier!
Summing up 5€ for 2nd hand switch and a weekend of thinking and soldering
