My next door neighbour had his new Mazda 6 opticoated last week by one of his church buddies and boy it looks great, the depth of shine that's been added and a permanent wet look really looks something special :needspecscleaning: certainly better that what I could ever achieve with no matter what product.

I had thought about doing it when I first bought my car but just never got around to it and a couple of years down the track it wasn't worth doing with all the frontend chips it'd received so next doors has convinced me to get mine done now as well since I've had the chance to get the car back to a first day home scenario looking all fresh and new after the recent repairs.

Derek from Refract Car Care Products Australia :link: Home | Refract Car Care Products Australia will be on my doorstep this Friday to treat me toy to a  claybar - polish then opti-coat pro+, I'm quite looking forward to never having to polish and wax again :happydance:

I'll put a picture up when she's done  :)

You might want to sit down first Steve...$900 smackers.

Gets 7 year warranty, his 10 year old jobs still look as shiny as when new and it's added to the insurance extras for replacement cover if another disaster ever strikes again  it better not :Prayer:

Hi Craig, So I'm guessing you have decided to keep her for at least another 3 years now??

If not, I'd be keeping that money towards your next changeover (or to spend on something else)  :winker:

Had my SR opticoated a few weeks after I got it. 4 months later and 12000kms, it still looks amazing and needs up nicely .

Bowdens products are really good for the coatings too. I give mine a weekly snow foam, followed by two bucket wash with nanoliscious and then dried with Boss Gloss.

Comes up a treat.

It's got some sparkle now, the metallic silver is almost impossible to look at in direct sunlight so had to do a semi shade photo.

Just going through all the justifications points:

-near new car (under 6 months)
-no chips in the paintwork
-planning to keep the car for up to 10 years
-already gone some distance with getting it how we like it (cream leather, two tone tint etc.)

Decisions, decisions...

Because I only usually keep my cars until they lose the new car smell not worth it for me, but if you intend keeping it that long Hati, much easier to justify.  :goodjob:

That stuff looks like the bees knees - what a great shine.

In the UK it is not a DIY product you can buy - a quote from the local detailer for my car was £850. I doubt that a white car like mine would show the benefit - so I will spend it on a few days away somewhere nice instead.  When anf if the sun ever comes out again.

Thanks Alan :goodjob2:

@AlanHo It's not a DIY job here either, you can buy the stuff but if you apply it yourself there is no warranty.

The prep is quite time consuming with the special wash he used to strip all the crap of the paintwork followed by a full machine polish/paint correction then alcohol rub and then on to the Opti-Coat basecoat (clear coat chemical bond) which is basically invisible and very difficult to make sure you haven't missed any areas, the second stage Opti-Coat Pro + application is just as difficult to see and both layers need to been done at specific 40 to 45 minute intervals in an enclosed area for dust free and temperature controlled conditions.

Depending on ambient temperatures the coating might need UV lamps for curing as well.

Figured that it is not just the chemicals costing 900 big ones. How does he do it on site?

Under the carport, has all the lighting placed at all corners and he’ll shut the roller door when doing the coating itself.

The boss (Dazzler) will be arriving soon so thought I had better spruce up the toy for his visit, cant have his highness chauffeured in anything but a clean Hyundai :D

I'm sure the gloss gets more depth to it every time it's washed since doing the OptiCoat, brilliant stuff :goodjob2:

I did look at getting something like this done.   There is a place here in Mandurah that does the Brilla Glass Coatings :link: About | BRILA
Which works out to pretty much the same price as the Opti-Coat Pro+ that you have had done.
I have also tossed up with the idea of having Protective Protection Film (PPF) placed on the car.  But that is a little more expensive.
As this video shows an advantage of having PPF in place.  :link: My AMG GT R is Damaged - Can PPF Save It? - YouTube  Go to about the 5 min mark

For now I have gone with this Collinite 845 insulator wax. :link: Insulator Wax » Collinite      Video :link: Collinite No. 845 Application and Review - YouTube

I only received it on Monday. Brought it on eBay. :link: Collinite #845 Insulator Wax Towel & Pad FACTORY FRESH | eBay
So hopefully this weekend I can apply it..   Won't be as good as either the 2 other products. But the results do look good.

Only thing with the vinyl protective wrap is after a couple of years in the sun the edges start to curl and fade then it looks horrible, I’ve never heard of Brila but if similar price go with the best and original Opti-Coat Pro +, also comes with 7 year warranty  :)
