I didn't appreciate how our scrappage scheme would turn people's heads so forcefully to the small car market, but this is good to hear...

What a pity this scheme didn't take off last year... maybe my original dealership would still be in business now.

So this is why the ships due in oz have not arrived

And for our Oz friends:

"The even better news for Hyundai Australia is that two of the models that have been selling so well in the UK under the scrappage scheme, the baby i10 and i20 light car, are also destined for the local market. The i20 might arrive before the end of the year, while the i10 is scheduled for next year".


It will be interesting to see how these 2 models are welcomed in OZ.

Hi Eye..

I think the i20 should go quite well over here if they price it right and give us the right engines .. it is basically the replacement for the Getz (although apparently at one stage they were going to keep the getz as a separate model for a while)

I think the i10 might struggle unless petrol prices skyrocket and stay around the $2 mark.. The smart car and other super minis never really took off in Aus...

i10 took the place of the Amica
i20 Getz
i30 Accent

Thanks Eye.. super minis have been a bit slow to sell over here...

other manufacturers over the years have released some with limited success

one of the more successful was the Diahatsu Sirion at one stage

we also got the Daewoo Matiz and a few others but not really that popular

Definitely never saw any Amicas
