Hi everyone, just added on some simple round 100watt spotties onto the front of my new i30,
Does anyone know of a high beam trigger location i  could use?
Going on a trip soon and dont want to be jumping around flicking off and on  switches every car that approaches,
Ive got the relay down pat jsut dont have a clue where to look to take a trigger from,
Cheers guys,
Steve
Will post up some more pics when all done,
ps any good ideas for getting wires through to the cabin as well , looking but its starting to get beyond my level of motivation for a weekend,

if you remove the panel under the steering coloum you will see 2 looms coming from the switches, one from the ignition swich (6 wires) and another from the stalks, you could back probe the connectors on them to find the hi beam wire!

to remove the panel tho is a bit tricky! first remove the fuse cover, by pulling it, then you have to remove the trim that holds the cover grasp it and pull it away from the dash... this will be very tight and feel like you might break it but it should eventually pop off

then you have to take the 2 screws out from the main panel at the bottom, 2 more from the side where the fuse cover is and it pulls away from the dash there are some clips on the side and at the top of it

take the obd2 connector off and the 2 for the switches and you can now back probe the wiring!! if you need help i can take photos for you tomorro when its light! good luck and BE CAREFUL look for hidden screws and clips

Cheers, tanks heaps for your help!
Your right  but about the panels, they feel like they r going to snap when they pop.
decided to stop being lazy and use a testlight as you suggested, However my problem still remains about getting a cable through lol, Il find a gap eventully .....
or some nice white 100mile an hour tape and tape the bloody thing to the outside of the car

Why not take the trigger from the back of each high beam at the haedlight units.

yes, easy place to get to, and just need one as a trigger of course.

yeah this is exactly what i ended up doing, Gave up and thgouth of a what i thoguht was dodgy way to trigger them and tripped them directly from the highbeam headlight,
Sure now my mater switch to turn them on/off is in the engine bay fit nicely into the spare fuse spot in the fuse box behind the battery, But they now trigger on with my highbeam,
Let me tell you they are now really friggin bright!!!!!
not that the standard lights were bad but the highbeam sort of lacked a little,
I like the pain you get in your eyes from the upcoming roadsigns glaring back at you hundred of meters away..... ;)
Next stop upgrade the crappy horn to something with a bit of clout!

I thought about adding a nautilus or similar, as the factory twin horns are a bit weedy, but I never got around to it.

I can still remember (just) how my Escort RS with 4 Cibies with 100W bulbs use to light up every thing

I also had twin air horns that used to make people jump  :D

The good old days. See if I can dig a picture or two out some time.

thanks, When i get back i think ill re run it through to the cab just to have the option of turning them off whilst on the go,
and to update, i connected the second set of brake lights up, think it was yellow wire to green wire....
and also updated the horn to twin fisa snail style trumpets, 142 db lol
So now i can deafen, blind and see whats coming up on me a mile behind by tapping the brakes,
ohh Agentr31 I took your idea about the uhf and put in my bearcat digital scanner UBCD996T
Hopefully itl be some good entertaiment on the way.

hrmm i think (in australia)you have to run them so they can only be operated with hi beam on and have them operated from a seperate switch that turns them off and on!

If I might suggest, the way I would do it is to tap the positive (+12) from the (one) high beam to the "top" of the relay coil, along with the new light(s) positive, and then run a wire from the bottom of the relay coil through the F/W to a switch in the cabin. The cabin switch will ground that wire.

Essentially, the extra lights are energised from the top by the high beam (+12) and switched from the bottom (-12) which allows the extra lights to be only on when the high beam is on but can be switched off independantly.

Only one wire needs to be routed through the F/W.

Ah yes. The good old days. My Datto had Cibie inserts in the 4 standard headlights (with 100w in the high beam slots and 55W in the outer headlights.
Then 2 Cibie Super Oscars (100W) mounted in between. (until the night I hit a Kangaroo in top gear)  :P

Lightforce is pretty untouchable. Brilliant design and very light weight. Some 170's will be going on mine soon. The 240's would look overkill lol.

Got the lightforce 170's mounted on a bar I got from auto one. They fit to the number plate mount but I was getting vibration due to the bumper being plastic so a couple of tec screws put through the number plate/mount has made a big difference. I've also just fitted the lightforce HID conversion - awesome! I've only got them hooked up to the high beam under the bonnet. The switch will come later when I can work out the best way ( & hopefully before I get pulled over ).

Where did you locate the relay? It's a pretty full engine bay. I have the Lighforce wiring harness. Need to also mount the fuse holder. I have the 170's too.
