Title: Kona 16inch mags for 2009 i30?
Post by: Zoltan67 on November 05, 2018, 07:14:27
Hi!
Just wondering if anyone would know if the wheels off the new Kona might be a bolt on to my 2009 i30?
There's a cheap set for sale an hour away...
Thanks.

There's a good chance they will though personally I'd take a drive over there and test one of the wheels for offset, that would be the only concern I would think...and the overall diameter of the tyres ( if they have :undecided: ) so that the rolling circumference is a match to what you have now.

Kona,  205/60R16 92H   6.5Jx16 ET44   5x114.3 That US market but I expect will be same here.

Offset 44mm

The FD had

205/55R16 91H      6Jx16 ET50          5x114.3

The GD had

205/55R16 91H     6.5Jx16 ET50      5x114.3

If those Kona rims have tyres at 60 profile, +3.2% on actual vehicle speed. So hypathetically if the dial indicated 100, actual was 99 on current spec then you'd be doing approx 102 not handy with all the speed cameras these days. If actual was much lower, less of an issue i guess but by ADR standards actual speed needs to be less than indicated .

So if tyres are slightly different profile you could swap the current one’s over to the new rim, I don’t see a problem with a ET44 though I’d still prefer to put one on and test guard width and steering lock for clearance.

My wheels are aftermarket though still have plenty of clearance with ET42.

Hyundais tend to live on -10%

so if the indicated speed was 100, you will be closer to 90 so +3.2% your only going to be doing 93.

I would suggest the OP checks their speed against a GPS speedo tomake sure this is the case.

Are the GD rims ET44 or did they stay at 50?

MY fleet of i30s is far more accurate than 10% . closer to 2-3%, all OEM 16"

I'll have to set the TOM TOM up and get some shots, what GPS unit was yours?

My i30 was extremely accurate too. Probably 102 at 100.

Do you mean speedo indicated 102, GPS 100? I doubt it was overspeed , would be defective and non compliant with the ADRs other way around.

All my Speedos have read slightly over the true speed.
How is that non compliant?

It's not, just the way you wrote it sounded like yo were saying  that the speedo was saying 100 and the car was doing 102

Thats why I suggested the OP check their speedo with a GPS.

If it is as accurate as yours, there will obviously be problems.  If there is a bit more play as some I have seen, it would be less of a problem  :)

The other issue would be that the Kona wheels don't look that ace as far as I am concerned, and if they come with tyres, they would probably be aimed at SUVs rather than cars (don't know why becuase there isn't much of a difference).
