....so what is the plug that the rat chewed for?
And is it ok to drive the car with the engine check light on,I believe it is to do with emissions?

Provided the wiring has been repaired, insulated and secured properly, what does it matter. The engine check light is probably the result of a stored fault code, which will need to be cleared by software. Remember, there really was a fault when the wires were chewed.

A detailed inspection need to be performed to ensure the rats haven't done damage that's unseen.

As Phil says, if you could get your hands on an OBDII dongle (I have one - it costs peanuts) and some software (I use a package on my smartphone) you could clear the trouble code yourself. If the code returned, you'd have to investigate further but I think it'd stay off if you cleared it.

Any official comment on what the exact wire that was chewed was connected to?

$115

couldn’t you say it was a feature of the car - like the nodding dog you put on the rear parcel shelf.
  • 1.4 Petrol Active I'm no expert, so please correct me if

Is that an insurance situation at all. $115 for a rat.  :argh:

Not unless z240 had an excess free policy (unlikely)  :disapp:

I've just dug out my old thread on this (here) and I offer my apologies - you are quite right Asterix.

This was the pic I took of my tuningbox connector - it's where you said.

We had a similar problem with squirrels at our place. My friend even had them build a nest in his VW, which resulted in all the grass and wood chips catching fire when the engine got hot!!

The simple fix for it, is to get some dryer sheets (Downy, Bounce, etc.) and Attach it to places under the hood where it won't catch fire. The smell is strong enough that it will keep animals away!
