Spotted an i30 being towed by Rogers Rescue of Kidderminster with its front wheels rolling backwards:



This is unfortunately the best available photo, but as we overtook I noticed no dolly was being used under the front wheels. This is the exact scenario that the manual warns against.

So you know the date , time and place of the incident. You also know the name of the rescue company and the reg No of the car they were towing incorrectly.

The problem now is to find the car's owner and advise them of the potential damage to their car.

But how does one go about it?.

I don't subscribe to Facebook or other social media myself - but that may be a possible route.

The majority of HY's E-prefixed plates are registered to car hire companies upon import. It's possible (going by its age) that it is still owned by a rental firm in which case they won't care as the car will be sold into the trade in the near future.

The AA undertakes call outs under HY's 5 year breakdown policy so I don't know what a local recovery firm's involvement means.

One option may be to simply tell HY UK directly. They should know who owns EF15 OTW and this information could deflect a future warranty claim towards the negligent recovery firm.

Some selling garages put their name on the number plate, usually rear thro, but if you can, enhance the picture to see a dealers name has been put on front.

I did a bit of googling on the subject of towing front wheel drive cars on the front wheels. Just about every relevant post on the subject states that it can damage the transaxle due to it being rotated in reverse for a long period. Some add that it is the result of the lubrication system not functioning properly which is designed to work effectively in the forward gears.

Make what you will of that - I don't understand it either..

But then they should have called for a  low loader!

Or dollies should have been used - which the truck should be carrying as...

Otherwise he would be stuffed if had to tow an all wheel drive that was in park, 4wd with stuffed GB, car with damage to both front and rear wheels on one side, etc..
