i30 Premium Electronic Parking Brake replacement with normal handbrake

Hello,

Looking at purchasing an i30 Premium but for me the EPB (Electronic Parking Brake) is a NO.

So has anybody removed the EPB and fitted the handbrake from the SE (or any other trim level with a proper handbrake) ?

I'm assuming the floor pan ie holes, mounting points etc are shared across all trim levels so it should be a matter of sourcing the various required parts off of any i30 with a handbrake fitted. My concern is can the EPB functionality be disabled in the software of the vehicle, I know this is possible on some Fords, and it would seem logical as some i30s have normal handbrakes but is it something that I can do when hooked up to the car with the right software like I used to do on my Ford or am I going to have to get a dealer to do this and have my wallet severely lightened.

Any advice appreciated.

ps is it possible to totally turn off the hill assist too ?

SO,
Seems like you are going to be the original" handbrake change over" specialist.
Have good look at what you need, and go for it,  take plenty of pics and notes and keep us updated.
Might pay to buy a lowet spec write off for the bits  :goodjob:
Just a thought,  where are you going to put the handle. :undecided:

I think that would be a risky modification. If it wasn't done right it could compromise safety, insurance and warranty on related parts. Being electronic I would imagine it would be programmed into the ecu/bcm (body control module) somehow. If so, you might stuggle to clear any ongoing warning lights.

Like Craig said consider another vehicle without this feature (including a lower model)

You would get used to an epb eventually. I'm 64 this year and I was initially against them but happy enough now.

Will require quite a few mods, new rear rotors, new rear calipers, new pads, new backing plate complete with hand brake shoes assembly, then the cabling, mountings, grommets, new centre console, hand brake assembly and then not to mention the system is integrated into the rest of the cars network it may get upset and miss it once it's gone.

And then I guess this is an engineering change on your car so whatever authority  you have needs to approve it and plate the vehicle accordingly just to cover your self with the insurance companies.

I have EPB and I like it for the fact I get a consistant parking brake. DOwn side is if the power goes down, the brakes are locked on.

Thanks for the responses.

Been looking into it some more and all seems do-able and could be made to look pretty original by using the SE trim around the handbrake but the issue of disabling references to the EPB in the cars software/electronics I haven't resolved, well not to my satisfaction so I think I will reluctantly look at the SE or the SE-Nav trims.
