I have a diesel i30 Crd 2010 model.

I replaced the steering dampener a few days ago, whew It was a quite a job on my own.
Anyway Its in and the steering wheel is super smooth again, no clonk clonk noise.

i took it for a test drive that night, the ESP light was on and pressing the ESP swith did buggerall.

When I got to a mates house ,after a coffee I started the car and the ESP light was off !!.

But alas today I start the car and ESP is on again and now red EPS is on.

The steering is still perfect..

Do I need to go to Hyundai and get them to reset the warning lights via the VAG computer !!

Any Ideas..

I made sure the spline went back on exactly as it came off.

Is there any one in Perth Australia with a VAG computer that can help ??

Regards

Andrew

If you have an OBD2 scantool it may read whatever code could be there. I've done a couple of bushings and been lucky enough not to need recalibration but the ESP coming on and resetting after a trip is what usually happens if all is well.

My last one did not though so I had to do a recal using HYundai GDS tool. @nzenigma Has found a foxwell OBD scanner that can do recal of the steering sensor although it ;ists GD i30 it still works.

What I am a little unsure of is the fact the red EPS light is on. I don't recall that I could be wrong, I do remember the amber ESP refusing to clear. Once I recal the steering angle sensor it was resolved.

Any chance there is a cable left disconnected off the motor controller? There's 3 plugs, 2 are power

Other than that I suggest the recalibration is done and go from there. Hyundai can do it but maybe steering specialists or a decent garage will have factory level tools to access that as well.  Ring around .

Hyundai call it ASP (Absolute Steering Position) calibration

I'm guessing most good wheel/suspension and mechanical repair shops would have the capabilities though I couldn't really say, I've never needed to look into problems in this specific area as of yet :Dunno:

Seems you were close enough to get ESP to reset after driving, but not spot on.
With it not centred the EPS will commonly come on.
It is also staying on when you take the key out so battery can go flat. ( check- the steering is not heavy)
By briefly disconnecting battery, EPS will turn off until next drive.

DO NOT GO TO THE DEALER.  $$$$$$$$$$ bend over $$$$$$$$$$$

Most good workshops will be able reset the steering. Its a 5 minute job.

Wheel Aligners hmmmmm! My Local Bob Jane has the latest alignment setup, it is so easy to understand,  a chimp can operate it.
But talk about centering EPS and the creature scuttles away.

As tw has said , I use the Foxwell, the GD data works on the FD

OK Update.....

I went to Hyundai Dealer LOL.......  no he needs to book the car in.... lol, oh and $88 before any work happens !! may need to replace entire steering column !! lol... I ran away...

Next I took it to my VW mechanic in Balcatta, "Eurospec" he specialises in VW audi. I asked him if he could give it a go.
He Had the Foxwell unit..
After many attempts we gave up ( the instructions onscreen were in bad english) and he took me up the road to one of his mates garages.
They let him use their "snapon" unit which was alot bigger than the Foxwell.
Well it was a breeze to operate and we recalibrated the steering and all the errors were history..

I cannot thank Phillip enough from Eurospec for going out of his way to help me.

Thankyou for all the responses to my First ever post lol on this forum, been a member for a while but never posted.

Very funny m'lad they  probably hadn't changed language settings. To the average Australian genius, Spanish probably does look like bad English.  :whistler:

After once again wasting time  repeating 'same old same old', then advising--

Bla, bla.....
DO NOT GO TO THE DEALER.  $$$$$$$$$$ bend over $$$$$$$$$$$
bla bla.....

Was really pissed off last night to read OP went straight to the devil incarnate  :crazy1: I have been   considering how much time I waste here.  :Pout:

Now, Now, there's the odd good one out there somewhere(maybe). After all Mr Bishi gave me a free copper washer for my new damper to keep me happy.  :goodjob2:
