Title: chasing some info on crdi 1.6
Post by: me217 on July 02, 2014, 12:46:44
Hey all. I'm chasing some information on the crdi 1.6 engine. I'm trying to find a rwd gearbox for the crdi either a gearbox that bolts straight up or a bellhousing adaptor to adapt a common box to it.
Any info would be great

I doubt anyone here would have information like that.

The best place for that would be a Korean site, where they do extraordinary things to their cars, but Korean would be a prerequisite.

I was hoping someone might have a bit of knowledge in that department as you never know what people have heard or kno. Guess I'll keep looking.

Incase anyone is wondering. I'm looking at fitting the crdi to a Datsun 1200.

Yes I know there are cheaper easier conversions. But how many people can say they have a turbo diesel Datsun 1200 Ute. With the torque of a v8 and fuel economy of a moped lol

Didn't realize you were doing that. It would be a huge job, but isn't the normal convention to use a gearbox adapter plate onto a comparable gearbox, then have the tail-shaft length altered to suit. The Crdi is quite a large engine dimensionally, so balance and engine mounts would need to be redefined also.

Perhaps speedshops would be a good place to start in Oz.

If you succeed, we'd love to see the results.  :D

I plan on doing the conversion myself. Maybe with the help of my daughter.

If any of you guys would like to follow the progress you can check it out here :link: Datsun 1200 ute ground up resto, Code name "Grizzly" [Forum - Project builds] : Datsun 1200 Club (http://datsun1200.com/modules/newbb/viewtopic.php?topic_id=63072&post_id=457400#forumpost457400)

Also I've done a couple engine conversions so far. But yes this will be the trickiest one yet. Gotta measure up the missus's i30 engine when I get a chance and cross my fingers it will fit physically.

We've had the i30 for over a year now and are very happy with it. And the engine seems much more refined then most dual cab crdis and packs a punch even in a relatively heavy i30

Not to mention clocked almost 50,000 kms in it and it hasn't missed a beat.

Yeah. She's obviously not helping with the rust repairs but she can help with the mechanical within reason. She is extremely clever. And she knows it's her Ute. Lol.
