Headlight
The government have issued an update to MOT testers. (Annual car inspections for vehicles 3 or more years old)

As of 1 January 2021, section 4.1.4 of the MOT Inspection manual reads: “Existing halogen headlamp units should not be converted to be used with high intensity discharge (HID) or light emitting diode (LED) bulbs. If such a conversion has been done, you must fail the headlamp.” '

Before this, as long as the headlights worked and were aimed properly plus they had the correct beam pattern, a car would pass its MOT for that section.
Which meant that you could go on to the internet, find a seller overjoyed to take your cash while promising an ‘LED upgrade’ to your existing bulbs and voila!

Wont Start
Hi All,

New to the forum - thanks for having me and hope someone can help with a pretty serious issue. The car is a 2014 i30 CRDI 1.6ltr.

The issue was intermittent with the car sometimes not starting - and then the problem has got worse, with the car not starting at all now from the key/ignition.

I've done a You Tube video to help you see the issue - but essentially, all the electrics and car work fine, but when you go to try and crank the engine nothing happens. You get clicking from the fuses/solenoid, but nothing happens at all.

When you push the key to the cranking position the radio and main beam lights go off as well but come back on when the key returns to normal position.

A me...

Review
I saw one of these on the road for the first time last week.
A very impressive unit which even my wife liked.

Sat Nav
Hi all,

Not sure if cross posting is allowed but it seems like we are now free to get the latest navigation software and update it ourselves!

Check it out at: :link: Official Hyundai Motors Navigation Update Website

Be prepared, it is a big file to download (3.4gb for me)!

Alternator
Hi all.

I have an i30 diesel auto. after discovering a bit of a noise. I inspected the drive belt and found it to be slightly loose and flapping about when idling. When I apply revs the noise stops and the belt runs through the pulleys smoothly.

I’ve replaced the belt but there is still the same issue. I think it’s an issue with the tensioner pulley so I’ve deceived to remove inspect and replace if required. The issue is, I can’t get the tensioner pulley off. Removed the bottom left bolt no problem.  the top right bolt will be come out at there is another pulley in the way.

Can anyone help?

Suspension Springs
Hi All, I ordered a standard wagon/estate i30 with 1.5 T-GDI MHEV engine and i-MT manual transmission. This engine has relatively high power, 160 hp, and this is the same engine that comes with the 2020-2021 top N-line models. Mine is not an N-line. But I tried one with the same engine and I can tell that the power steering and the suspension are slightly better on the N-line compared to the standard trim level. According to the official communications the N-line only gets different setting, not different components. My question is, would it be possible somehow to modify the power steering and suspension settings on a standard car to make it similar to the N-line? I asked my Hyundai retailer, they said that a suspension modification would c...

Suspension Springs
While out today I heard a cracking noise from the front nearside front wheel.

Going over speed bumps when it happened it was really odd feeling as the car didn't "bounce" and the steering feels slightly unresponsive turning left.

Back home checking I find the spring has broken at the 2nd loop and looking at the wheel arch you can see the gap to the tyre is marginal compared to the other side.

Got it booked into a local garage next week but was wondering how big a job it is replacing the spring?

Problems & Issues
Hi
I hope I have posted this in the correct place.
Be kind please... first post!

I have a very basic 1.4 petrol 2012 model just hit 70 thousand miles.
Well looked after. Serviced in house. Oil and filter changed about 500 miles ago. It was a mann filter used.

(Last car was a nissan k11 1.3 super s.. owned for 12 years and practically rebuilt body over that time until I could not spend another £ on steel!)

Jesse is nothing spectacular but has been reliable until this morning..

Im 5 weeks away from my due date on a mission to the recycling centre.
Chilly morning, jesse was a bit hesitant in the background but this is something jesse has ALWAYS had until she warms up.

Glow Plug
Hello everyone, I'm new to the club and I'm happy that i could join. :D
The things is , I already have a question for you, fellow i30 owners. I own (as my description says) a 2014 i30, 1.6 crdi (diesel), 5door wagon, (the 110bhp engine model). As I'm not a mechanic or anything close to it I don't know if I have a problem with my car's glow plugs or they should be just like this. My car starts very hard in the winter (in Romania around -5 to -10 degrees Celsius), even if i wait more than 10 minutes with my ignition(key position) ON . Many people told me that I should wait 2 to 3 minutes or less for my glow plugs to do the magic and warm the engine chamber to a temperature that helps the car start normally, this being shown by the glow p...
